Confederation
Ammerian Confederation and abbreviated as the AAC, is a confederation in Ammeria. It spans over 1,000 lightly controlling over a hundred thousand stars in its territory. Some colonies appear outside of the main territory, but these have more autonomy as their isolation proves difficult to maintain their economies.
Overview
It was founded in 39,980 CE by the last surviving Paxites, the Di'Vaornians and Nar'Gorrians. Over the millennia, it welcomed new civilizations as members of the alliance, building its economy to new, unprecedented levels. From outside observers, the alliance was described as pacifist and xenophobic to non-League members. They had no interest in purging other species, but rather enforced strict immigration policies.
Originally, it was founded as a deterrent to prevent a galactic war or an uprising. As the years went by, these fears vanished and the future of the alliance became more optimistic. The last few Paxites that led the small, wealthy class had huge influence on politics, influencing elections and spreading false information.
Contact with the Confederacy of Borealis, and their allies, was a particularly tedious process. The League was initially very hesitant to begin negotiations for a military pact. As the months went by, they became more impatient and cancelled the talks, ending any possible alliance with them. The largest political parties, the Ickroddian Party and Liberal Party, viewed the Confederacy as inept. Anti-Human sentiment became the dominant political driver in future elections.
Political Structure
Upon the League's creation in 39,980 CE, the Constitution was written and ratified. The first President was temporary, lasting for less than a year, before an election was held in 39,981 CE that brought the Social Conservative Party into government for the first time. From this point onwards, an election across all of its colonies was scheduled every twenty-five years, but an earlier one could be agreed if the majority of the Senate voted for it.
The President is the most powerful position in the government. Most of the President's powers are influenced by no-one else, but ordering military action or declaring war, requires a vote in the Senate. Just like the Senators, the President can introduce any bills or legislation to the Senate, where a vote takes place.
Brief History
One of the League's founders, the Paxites, are the last remnants of the ancient Samian Hivemind that existed between 6500 BCE and 2500 BCE. While some Paxites found refuge on Kreon, some of them settled in the Silver League.
Being pacifist, they never showed interest in taking military action to solve galactic crises. Instead, the diplomats and ambassadors would be tasked with negotiating an agreement with the hostile state. Their foreign policy tends to appease the enemy when territorial claims are made in the Ammeria. There are less than fifty colonies from intergalactic powers in the galaxy, among the billions of League colonies.
Etymology
Its name is derived from the galaxy's name; Ammeria, which is an ancient Samian translation for the almighty Ammerian river. When the constitution was signed in 39,980 CE, it was agreed that by the signatories that the name must have a sense of power to it.
Constitution
The Confederation was founded on the values of peace, stability and prosperity. Its founders, more commonly known as the Founding Mothers, immediately took power in the office of the High Council, where passed bills and laws would then be officially made into law.
The constitution forbids the President from serving more than three terms. However, there is no law to stop a one-term President from running again years later.
In the 67000s CE, the totalitarian fanatic Verris Ave ripped apart the constitution and remained in power for nearly a hundred years. During this time, he oversaw the Galactic Depression, which collapsed the galaxy's economy and plunged trillions upon trillions of citizens into poverty. His daughter, Revis Ave, eventually restored the Confederation to its former glory, signing a new constitution into law. The Confederation enjoyed a millennia of economic growth afterwards.
