Alnihaya

Alnihaya (Un'oit: Toccata) is a warm terrestrial planet with 120 billion inhabitants. It is home to one of the longest-running terraformation projects in history, having started 2800 years ago. This is due in large part to the great ambition of terraforming this world, originally a public works project to justify the heavy amounts of aid the Rorazals from nearby Garrea needed. Alnihaya was not an ideal terraformation candidate as a result. Even so, after two thousand years of effort, the planet had a breathable atmosphere but little in the way of oceans. The next 800 years saw the gradual introduction of oceans.

This long running project was subject to a great deal of delays. Since most of the population lives underground, expensive infrastructure is needed to keep the great natural caverns from flooding. Trillions of tonnes of earth needed to be moved to protect these settlements and keep existing settlements dry. Mandras currently controls the world and is enjoying a great budget surplus without having to spend so much on the now-terraformed Alnihaya.
