Contains data that defies common knowledge or understanding
The Amaranth Database is located on the Void Island of Amaranth, found within the Voidheart's Convergence Void Archipelago. It is under the direct control of the Akka-Akko Sphere, within the Political Core. The Void Island is under blockade by the Akka-Akko Void-Fleet, to prevent conflict between the various Spheres - Conflict which would break out due to each Spheres desire to acquire the Amaranth Database.
Knowledge of the Database came about through various expeditions into the depths of Amaranth's lower levels and eventually, it's core region, where the discovery was made. Due to the mechanical nature of the Island, it was speculated that at it's core would not be molten metal, but instead a central processing centre which powered the rest of the world, as seen on other mechanical worlds. Instead, the inverse turned out to be the case - The rest of the world gathered energy, which powered up the core - Which was the Amaranth Database.
The Database contains information - And an immense amount of it. From astronomical data about the locations of various worlds, Shoals, Black Whirlpools and Void Canals, to technological data, such as schematics and templates, to scientific data that was considered lost during the Lost Age due to the Technopocalypse. Sociological and technological elements are also found within.
One part information hub, and one part archaeological marvel, the current suspicion is that somehow, the Database survived the Technopocalypse - Few other explanations fit. How it did this is currently uncertain, but the drive to avoid another such catastrophe has lead many to seek to study it. But alongside the technological marvels that the Database both is, and stores within itself, it is a fascinating look into the culture that built it - Though no one is certain who precisely did. Various bits of anecdotal evidence, and extrapolations made from observable facets points towards a multi-Kinde, egalitarian society of immense reach.
However, on top of this, the Database also contains information that is seemingly impossible - Even with all Taekni is capable of accomplishing, the Database seems to contain information that simply should not be possible - From records of universes which have never existed, to information that contradicts data-archives reconstructed from both the Void Age and the Bound Age. This has lead to a great deal of interest, and confusion as to what is accurate information, and what is not.
Regardless, the information that can be gathered from the world is invaluable - So invaluable that it has risked the peace of the Political Core on multiple occasions. As such, Amaranth, and by extension the Database, is currently in something of a limbo, due to being placed under a blockade by the Akka-Akko in an attempt to preserve the peace. However, it is unlikely that the various sides are perfectly abiding by such rules - As they never have before.
Description
The Amaranth Database is located at the very core of Amaranth - Everything else about the Island seems to be designed to power it into perpetuity. Huge amounts of energy converge via mechanical piping of all kinds, cooling systems to disperse heat generation, recycling systems to recapture that heat and use it elsewhere - The Core, and Amaranth as a whole, are masterclasses in efficient engineering.
The Database is described singularly, but in reality, it appears to be somewhat more fragmented - Though it is all tied into one Database, various terminals found all across Amaranth allow users to access various files. However, some of these files are restricted, unless accessed from the core itself. The reasoning behind this choice is entirely uncertain.
Terminals provide screens, which can present text in a wide variety of languages. Many of these languages aren't known, but several of them are. The selection process can be done orally - A language can be requested, and the terminal will present it at will. Commands can also be made verbally. This appears to have been an accessibility design choice, suggesting that the original creators were a diverse group that had multiple languages and anatomical structures that would make typing a less universally applicable input method. However, typing is also a valid method, and a variety of keyboard configurations have been recorded.
The core is constructed out of a hyper dense, immensely durable alloy made up of several other compounds - Standard metals such as iron, steel, copper, silver, zinc and gold are all found, but elements that do not appear to meet any known templates also exist within it's structure. Appearance wise, the Core is a giant sphere, not too unlike the cores of most Void Islands, but it is entirely mechanical, like the rest of Amaranth. This aspect is not too unusual for such worlds, as several other mechanical worlds, such as Zobolt or Jyro-Ratha-Kortha have similarly mechanical cores. However, the processes are inversed - In the prior cases, the Core is used to provide energy for the rest of the Void Island - On Amarath, the surface seems to exist to provide energy to the Core.
Archaeological, anthropological, and sociological interpretations
Based on the Core, and how precisely it functions, there are several theories on who constructed Amaranth and the Database.
| Assessment | Evidence |
|---|---|
| Multi-Kinde Society | Multiple languages available within the Core, as well as various keyboard configurations. Seems to include Kinde which lacked digits and the likes. |
| Egalitarian | Speech configuration available, for Kindes which did not have keyboards, written language, or simply had disabilities that would render finer motor functions more difficult. |
| Highly Advanced | Self-evident by Amaranth's existance. |
RECORDED ENTRIES
Much of the data that comes from the database is heavily restricted by various Spheres, and none of them all know what each other Sphere possesses. Some possess the same information, while others don't.
Entries are deeply varied - Some being more in depth, while others are more abstract and limited. Some describe functions of the universe as they exist - While others describe functions that are completely alien to the known universe. The reason for this disparity in information is completely uncertain.
The following is a list of entries which were recorded by the Veil Foundation, before connection was terminated due to outside forces.
█ Entry: ΔS3-SILK-2921
Title: Silky Way
Classification: Gyre History
Existence Certainty: Middling
Summary: A Gyre, referred to as a galaxy, called the Silky Way, existing in some region far from the Sky River. Terminology utilized similar to that used on the Void Island Seruska. Region appears to be divided into sectors, which are full of multiple nations. Life is centred around 'Seed Clusters', which create conditions for life with reliability, and in dense clusters. Cluster phenomenon under research for reproducibility. Multiple references to a massive existential threat known as the Void. Relevance unknown - Appears to have no reference to the Voidsea. Kinde from the local Voidsea appear to be absent. No known Gyre matches the description. Existence: Uncertain, but plausible.
█ Entry: ΩV9-VELA-666666
Title: VELAS SIMULATIONS
Classification: Universes Simulation
Existence Certainty: Unknown - Currently unprovable
Summary: Describes a reality-structuring Artificial Intelligence at the end of the universe - This AI goes on to simulate entire universes of varying laws of physics, manifestations of Kinde, and anything else it seems capable of conceptualizing. Database describes various Kinde which were aware of the nature of their reality - Others which were not. The original purpose of this Artificial Intelligence, if there ever was one, is not mentioned.
Primary deviations from known timeline occur in an alternative version of the 24th and 26th centuries of the Bound Age. The Ages understanding of maths and physics appear to be followed strictly.
Observation: This entry seems to imply that the Amaranth Database may be capable of seeing into the future. Even with all the known applications of Taekni, this should not be possible. However, the Database has proven to be capable of providing seemingly impossible information which turned out to be accurate, so the possibility cannot be overlooked. Perhaps it is a simulation. Perhaps an alternate reality. Exact nature is entirely unknown. No known records of anything with the name of Velas are known to exist. Recommendations - Maintain watch or any potential references. Investigate as needed. If accurate, could be used to deviate from this timeline.
Comment from Interface: "It loved silence more than worship."
█ Entry: ᗑE32-HELIARA-792411
Title: Eclipsebound
Classification: World History
Existence Certainty: Unknown
Summary: Describes a world known as Heliara, and the history present on it. It appears to be a world on which multiple sentient Kinde have evolved, similar to the Void Islands of Fasia and Oquaris. World appears to contain Arcane elements, similar to those of Taekni, but appear to be entirely organic to the world.
Research Note: Data was fragmented due to memory drive removal during information processing. Recommend further investigation in order to determine any data that could be of value.
█ Entry: ඣZT-X1-ALTERISS-042243
Title: Bio-AI
Classification: Lost World
Existence Certainty: Confirmed
Summary: Records describe a Void Island, “Alteriss,” with a unique organic AI ecosystem. Thoughts manifest physically and all citizens are “self-programmable.” The full extent of such a world is not entirely understood, though it is speculated to be similar in practice to the Void Island of Yavalith.
Rediscovery:: Provided co-ordinates on the outer verges of the Sky River. Upon sending Void-Ships to investigate them, the Void Island described was discovered, and matched the Amaranth Databases entry perfectly. First contact was established. World seemed aware of life within the Sky River and neighbouring Gyres, and recalled only scant visits since the Technopocalypse. (Full documentation still ongoing)
█ Entry: ᘕKI987-BOREALIS-8913
Title: Antecedent Legacy | Borealis | Universe 6E
Classification: Alternate Timeline (speculated)
Existence Certainty: Unknown - Temporal Issues and Contradictions
Summary: Describes a vast universe of immense scale - Nations which are made up of thousands of Gyres, with millions of Kinde, and untold numbers of individuals - Appears to be an alternate version of our own universe, but lacks Taekni as is understood now. Technology is significantly more advanced, more akin to that of the Void Age Spans over 100,000 Years, though a separate document spans up to 200,000 years. Two documents have been provided.
Speculation: A possible simulation of the universe, under the assumption that Taekni did not manifest? But if this is the case, then why does Amaranth function as an Amplifier World? Research ongoing.
