Broadwave

'The Broadwave brings us Taekni - And takes back our designs. And thus, the cycle of evolution begins anew'

The Broadwave is the primary method via which the Arcane phenomenon of Taekni is transmitted, manifested, and understood. It appears to originate out of the Abyssreach.

Best understood to be a sort of radio-wave, akin to those used in wireless communication devices, the Broadwave is the technological substrate signal that permeates both the Voidsea and the Realmlands. It is omnipresent in the daily lives of those it reaches, surrounding them as they perform their daily tasks, regardless of if they are performing Taekni or not. To many, the easiest way to understand the Broadwave is that it is Taekni, not given form, until someone actually performs a spell with it.

While it is often described as a radio-wave, such comparisons fail to capture the sheer depth, scale, and complexity of the Broadwave, how it interacts with individuals, and how it is, in turn, interacted with. Like Taekni itself, the Broadwave has evolved since it's inception, becoming entirely unrecognizable from whatever data can be found on it from Void Age data packets.

It is through the Broadwave that Taekni becomes operable, its Runes given meaning, and Inputs acknowledged. It is the network, the source, and the mediator through which the Arcane is processed and manifested into physical change.

Alongside this, it is also something of an evolutionary enhancer as well - It's mere prescence appears to had had an impact on a not small number of Kinde, from giving life to some, such as the Vystallans or the Hrakur, to radically changing the anatomy of others. Traits are another byproduct of the Broadwave, impacting the lives of numbers of people too great to even begin to understand.

There are regions wherein, despite the Broadwave reaching them, Taekni cannot manifest. These areas are called Null Zones.

Understanding the Broadwave

Whenever an individual uses Taekni, be it via a Rune they have cast, a tattoo on their body they have activated, or a ritual they have performed, it is through the Broadwave that it is manifested.

The Broadwave originates from a source currently thought to be in the Abyssreach - That source is the origin of Taekni. When a user casts a Rune, they are in essence telling the Broadwave the effect that they seek to create, and then, the Broadwave manifests it. This is the act of performing the Arcane Art of Taekni - The Broadwave acts as the medium through which Taekni is performed.

Amplifier Worlds

Though the Broadwave can cover the Realmlands, it's range is less consistent in the Voidsea. While it can reach the furthest depths of the known Voidsea, it's effects can be weaker the further from a source of broadcast.

This lead to the creation of Amplifier Worlds - Worlds which are dedicated relay stations for the Broadwave. These worlds allow the range of both the Broadwave, and therefore, Taekni, to be massively expanded. Most Spheres construct Amplifier Worlds, seeing them as a major necessity, for Infrastructure, defence, and research purposes.

Examples of Amplifier Worlds include Volition, Ba Chi, Falhofner, and Lir.

Impacts on the Voidsea

The Broadwave has had many impacts on the Voidsea throughout it's existence.

Evolution

One of the most notable things it has impacted is evolution - The Broadwave is always present, and over the course of generations, many Kinde have evolved to take advantage of it.

Traits, for example, have been linked to the Broadwave - Many Kinde have evolved the ability for individuals to manifest certain types of Taekni without the need for the Broadwave at all, though they usually require immense practice to use to any major degree.

Some Kindes have been theorized to have entered sentience entirely due to the Broadwave and Taekni - Or at least, believe themselves to have been. The Hrakur are one such example.
