Champsinar is the homeworld of the Champsinarian Kobolds and Suchians. It is the fourth planet in orbit around the star, Ezekial, which scorches the surface as it grows larger and more intense.
History
Champsinar is an ancient planet having formed 6 billion years ago. Complex life first appeared 1 billion years prior in the oceans and exploded in diversity only 70 million years after, and within 40 million years of this explosion life ventured onto land where it continued to diversify.
In these billion years of existance, Champsinarian Life has withstood 8 mass-extinctions that occured throughout it's long history, the most recent of which was only 12 million years ago
Geography
Champsinar has a single Supercontinent, known as Chuk, and a large global ocean called
Champsinars continental areas are is arid and exposed to extreme heat and deadly radiation, courtesy of their sun Ezekiel, covered in rocky craggy terrain. Champsinar’s Oceans are cold and saline, as well as being very rich in life.
Sapient Races
Sapient Races Kobolds and Suchians
The seas are the essential to Champsinarian Civilization, Most major cities are located on the coast, with the land’s interior being too harsh for large settlements to exist. The edible sea creatures caught en-masse fuel the advanced cities and are the main foodsource for the populace, they are also the planets' primary interplanetary export, earning the planet its reputation as the Commercial Fishery Planet.
Champsinarian Biotas
Champsinar's biota is in the process of re-evolving its rich biodiversity, the last mass extinction that occurred 12 million years ago due to the fusing of the continental plates to form Chuk , left very few creatures alive to repopulate the planet.
These include representatives of several familys ...
- Dile Family - Diles are a diverse group of creatures that resemble the crocodilians of Earth, and are amongst the most common terrestrial creatures of the time. The ancestral, surviving Diles were small, burrowing creatures with a generalist and adaptable lifestyle that allowed them to thrive and explode in diversity after the stabilization of the environment and absence of larger species to challenge them. Moley-diles, Beard-diles, Chucks and the sapient Suchians are some notable representatives of this group.
- Beetle Family - named after the Earth Insects of which they bear a strong similarity to, Champsinarian Beetles are 'vertebrates' that are relatives to the Dile family, whose osteoderms fused to create a hard shell that covers the body. Though they do possess many typically insect-like features which can cause confusion to any Earthlings visiting the planet
Inland Wildlife
- Scrungly Moley-dile - these scaleless subterranean creatures are among the most abundant creatures in the Central Desert’s of Champsinar’s continent. They can be considered living fossils as they are extremely similar to the ancestral surviving Dile species and may in fact be the same species. Fossil evidence shows that in the first 5 million years following the extinction event Scrungly Moley-diles accounted for 80% of terrestrial biodiversity.
- Mound-building Moley-dile - Very similar in appearance to the Scrungly Moley-dile (to whom they are closely related), the Mound-building Moley-dile is another denizen of the Central Deserts. Measuring only 5 inches in length, they live in colonies up to 10 million strong. They are eusocial, like Naked Mole Rats or Termites of Earth, and build gigantic mounds in which to house their nests. A Moley-dile mound typically reaches 63 feet in height, 30 feet in diameter and extending 50 feet underground. Though one ecceptional colony on the Northwestern edge of the Central Desert harbors an estimated 508 million animals, reached 287 feet tall, had a diameter of 162 feet and extended 72 feet underground, covering an area of 20,000 square miles, with an additional 4 million smaller mounds connecting to the main mound.
- Thorny Beard-dile - The Thorny Beard-dile is a relatively large predator, and is the apex predator of the Central Deserts. These large, (10 ft long, 300 lbs) members of the Dile family feed on Moley-diles that venture above ground as well as Moundbreaker Beetles, Sand-snakes and will gladly hunt down any creature that wanders into the desert including Kobolds and Suchians. Thorny Beard-diles dig deep burrows where the retreat into during the hottest parts of the day and cold nights, coming out to feed in the mornings and evenings
- Silver Moundbreaker Beetle - A Common Predator on the Central Deserts, similar to Earth's Anteaters and Aardvarks. They wander the deserts looking for Moley-dile nests, sniffing them out with their sensitive noses and feeling for subterranean vibrations with their whiskers/antennae. Once a nest is found, the Moundbreaker Beetle will use it's powerful arms and claws to rip through the concrete-like nest material, and use a pair of long tounges to constrict fleeing workers or attacking soldiers. The Silver Moundbreaker Beetle's carapace is a vibrant, reflective silver. This coloration helps them in two big ways, the most important being that it reflects sunlight and solar radiation, which allows the slow-moving Moundbreaker Beetle to stay outside even in the mid-day. It also can serve as an added defense against predators, allowing the Moundbreaker Beetle to reflect sunlight off it's shell and momentarily blind predators giving them time to run away.
- Charles Springs Finger-fish
- Central Desert Sand-snake
Coastal Wildlife
- Lanky Chuck - a close genetic relative of the Suchians, the Lanky Chuck are the apex predator of many coastal forests. Although they have bodies only 20% larger than the average Suchian, their powerful limbs can reach 45 - 50 feet in length, allowing them to camouflage amongst trees or wade out into the ocean to ambush prey.
- Spiny-scalped Gekkodile - A common insectivore and frugivore found in the coastal forests. They are notoriously dimwitted but make good, low-maintenance companions.
Oceanic Wildlife
- Champsinarian Pseudo-Herring - a forage fish species, notable for its bright blue patterns.
- Champsinarian Pseudo-Sardine - a forage fish species, they are more closely related to the Suchians than any other ‘fish’ species on Champsinar.
- Silver Finger
- Silver Leviathan
