Charon is a mini-aquaria in the Sol System orbiting Pluto. The body is technically a binary dwarf planet with Pluto, since the two objects orbit a shared barycenter located outside of Pluto. It was discovered by Humans in 1978 CE and later first landed on in 2254 CE with a colony first set up on it and Pluto in 2370.

The body currently has a population of one hundred seventy million individuals. Its most common exports are water and nitrogen to be used for nearby infrastructure. The Pluto-Charon system is well out of the way, so few people end up visiting the moon and even fewer decide to live on it.

Despite being one of the largest objects in the Kuiper Belt. Charon was received little attention from those colonizing the outer Sol System. There was simply never a reason to colonize the object. Only when Pluto received a colony that Charon had a small number of people call it home.

History

When the object was discovered, it was named after an ancient human deity with the same name. The deity was a ferryman of the dead and would take them to the afterlife over the river Styx.

It was not until 2015 when humanity was able to obtain a clear photograph of the object using the New Horizons Space Probe.

The first self-sufficient colony on Charon was built in 4012, almost two millennia after the object was first colonized. The reason for this is that colonizing places such as Jupiter or Neptune proved to be far more profitable. The base was built as a tourist destination and as a resort for those wanting to distance themselves from the crowded inner solar system.

It was not until 19987 that the moon had truly large amounts of infrastructure built on it. Large numbers of bunkers and defensive infrastructure were built all over the planet. It was intended to be used as a safe-haven for the government of the LaC in case of a threat. These bunkers, however, never saw use by the government. The moon became a forward base for drug traffickers called Os Templários. They took advantage of the already-built structures and defenses to conduct their sales in relative safety. For the entirety of the Split of the Lactean Confederacy as well as several decades beyond, the gang occupied the moon.

After Os Templarios collapsed due to a rebellion by their robotic servants, the moon remained largely abandoned until the increase of property values of objects orbiting the sun in the 34th millennia. Suddenly, every roughly spherical body in the Sol System became highly valuable. Living around the home-star of one of the most influential species in the entire Virgo Supercluster was a huge drawing factor. The moon was quickly sold to a real-estate company and became decently well-populated. For almost thirty millennia it remained as one of the cheaper bodies to live on in the Solar System. It was far from the sun and relatively difficult to get to, so property values were not nearly as high as those around Jupiter, for example.

In the early sixtieth millennia, the majority of the prestige surrounding the Sol System began dying down. Most of the people living on Charon left as they only lived on it because it was popular. Currently, the moon is covered in many empty structures once filled with large numbers of people. No disaster happened, no war caused it to be destroyed, and no entity forced everyone to live somewhere else. The reason for why few call Charon home is because few want to. There is little reason to live on such a planet.
