Crystal Palace Dinosaurs

Scope: Strataverse
From Amaranth Legacy, available at amaranth-legacy.community

What is this, some kind of Strata Verse?
This content is within or about the Strataverse.

Created in 1845 by the geneticist Dr. Montgomery Moreau. To be exhibited in the Crystal Palace Park.

Species

  • Crystal Palace Iguanodon - made from combining the DNA of a Rhinoceros Iguana and Indian Rhinoceros. They are the largest herbivore that was created. They prefer areas that stay above water year-round, where they are free to feed on plants such as ferns, horsetails and clubmosses, though they aren't picky and will gladly stuff any vegetation they come across into their mouths.
  • Crystal Palace Pterodactylus - made from the DNA of Mute Swan, Indian Flying Fox, and Gharial. The Pterodactylus are primarily water-dwellers, floating at the surface, and catching small fishes that come near, they can also dive beneath the surface and chase after prey, holding their breaths for 5 minutes at a time in pursuit of fish. They are unskilled fliers however, preferring to lazily glide from perches atop tall trees or rock formations, rather than deal with powered flight.
  • Crystal Palace Megalosaurus - made from the DNA of Komodo Dragon, Saltwater Crocodile, Brown Bear
  • Crystal Palace Plesiosaurus - made from the DNA of Australian Sea Lion, Green Sea Turtle, Ganges River Dolphin, and Elephant Trunk Snake
  • Crystal Palace Ichthyosaurus - made from the DNA of Leopard Seal, Green Sea Turtle, Saltwater Crocodile and Ganges River Dolphin
  • Crystal Palace Mosasaurus - made from the DNA of Komodo Dragon, Green Sea Turtle, Sperm Whale and Saltwater Crocodile
  • Crystal Palace Labyrinthodon salamandroides - made from the DNA of Common Toad, African Bullfrog and Asian Water Monitor
  • Crystal Palace Teleosaurus - made from the DNA of Gharial and Slender-snouted Crocodile
  • Crystal Palace Labyrinthodon pachygnathus - made from the DNA of Fire Salamander, American Bullfrog and Asian Water Monitor
  • Crystal Palace Dicynodon - made from the DNA of European Pond Terrapin, American Bullfrog, Saltwater Crocodile, Wild Boar and Siberian Musk Deer
  • Crystal Palace Hylaeosaurus - made from the DNA of Green Iguana, Saltwater Crocodile, Nine-banded Armadillo and Cattle

History

Following their creation they were housed in holding pens at the Crystal Palace Park, until 1850 when several animals, including the Pterosaurs, Iguanodons, Hylaeosaurs, a Mosasaur and the Megalosaurs escaped from their pens and were able to freely roam the streets of London.

3 people were killed during the escape along with 2 dogs, and a horse. All the creatures were eventually captured by Park staff and returned to their pens.

However this event prompted M.Y.T.H.O.S. to step in and relocate the animals to the newly designated Monster Island on Ile de Montezuma near the Yucatán.

The creatures adapted readily to a tropical environment, and even started breeding.

By 1954 when Monster Island operations were moved from Ile de Montezuma to the newly created Monster Island in the South Pacific the populations had risen.

Due to the drastic population increase and presence of many other introduced creatures the environment of Ile de Montezuma had been nearly destroyed which was beginning to take a toll on the animals health and overall population.

Once moved to the new island however, the animals adapted. Primarily taking refuge in the island’s coastal wetlands. Where their populations continued to expand.
