'Every day, our world tries to poison us, and every day, we fight it off. Compared to that, having an Arcane fireball thrown as us is a literal breath of fresh air.'

Vikingr Hirth

The Death Breathers of Aiytr, often shortened down simply to 'The Death Breathers', is the name given to the Vikingr Hirth that come from the noxious Void Island of Aiytr, and act as part of the Voidsea Harjaz for the Cosmic Union.

Descended directly from the Flygia Riki's armed forces, the Death Breathers have a long, explicitly martial tradition, and consider themselves to be fighters, first, foremost, and finally. Though they share this outlook with several other Hirths, it puts them in the minority, as Hirths usually consider themselves to be parts of community, acting as workers, and representatives. To many Hirth's, fighting is just a single aspect of their work, and it is not uncommon to find members engaged in construction, Arcane tutoring, or other tasks to serve the overall community. For the Death Breathers, they are fighters, and little more.

Part of this is to do with the long, brutal history of their home-world, and the many invasions they have faced, but at least some of it is thought to be a cultural heritage that survived from the days of the Void Imperator. This can make others uneasy around the Death Breathers, especially those with vivid memories of the Flygia Riki's reign.

Still, their mastery of attritional warfare in highly toxic environments makes them an incredibly useful tool in a variety of specialised situations. They are often deployed on the Toxic Front, but are also often called in to handle Vainaja outbreaks, and worlds where chemical attacks are expected, or suffered the aftermath of.

For better or worse, the Death Breathers rarely find themselves lacking in work.
