The Delnar System is an important if small star system of the Vernarcan Federation, centered upon the red dwarf Delnar. It is the capital system of the Delnar Empire, a federation member state; and home system of the Verna species. Oddly for a system within the Vernarca Nebula, the Delnar System only has two planets, Verri and Sil, both of which are less than a tenth of a standard terrestrial mass.
Architecture
The Delnar System has a fairly simple layout, with the inner system dominated by various large asteroids and dwarf planets like Iriri and Mollo. Beyond this clustering of asteroids lies the largest objects outside of Delnar itself, the binary planet of Verri and Sil roughly 0.4 AU away from the star. The outer system beyond Verri/Sil is composed of another large disk of asteroids and cometary objects of varying size, extending for dozens of AU into the void before eventually merging with the system's Limit Cloud. The system's complete lack of large planets (Verri and Sil are both less than twice the mass of Praxis) is unusual for a system within a seed cluster, and may have been caused by the close passage of another star.
Delnar is a small red dwarf star residing at the center of the Delnar System and one of the closest stars to the Verda System. It has a mass of roughly 0.16 stellar masses and around a quarter the radius of Verda. Like most red dwarves, it is much brighter in the infrared than in the visible range, and experienced some level of flare activity.
System Layout
Inner Belt
Beneath the lonely planets, the Delnar System is filled with a large assemblage of asteroids and dwarf planets simply known as the Inner Belt. Due to its proximity to Delnar's light and high levels of available resources which were never consolidated into planets, the inner belt is hoe to much of the system's population. Due to Verri's nigh-impenetrable haze, the objects of the inner belt were only discovered as the Verna began their space age and mapped by various orbital telescopes.
The Inner Belts largest members are the dwarf planet Iriri and the supermassive metallic asteroid of Mollo, but millions of others exist in the region. Today, most objects have been heavily colonized, with habitation structures integrated into their surfaces.
Iriri
Iriri is an ancient, battered world, taking its modern form millions of years before Verri and Sil had the chance to do so. Its surface is pocked with craters and riven with canyons, which shelter millions of people in various cities shadowed from the heat of Delnar's close proximity.
Mollo
Mollo is the largest asteroid in the inner belt, similar in mass to Vas of the Verda System although much more elongated in dimensions. It has been largely hollowed out to support various internal habitats since the age of exploration began.
The two largest objects within the Delnar System outside of the star itself are Verri and Sil, two binary planets orbiting roughly 0.4 AU away from Delnar. Verri and Sil orbit distantly, just under once every 16 days. Verri is the homeworld of the Verna species and capital of the Delnar Empire, making it strategically vital to the Vernarcan Federation. The two planets are orbited by a number of large megastructures and stations, including the famous San Ska Re shipyards.
Outer Belt
After a large gap past the orbits of Verri and Sil, the asteroids and dwarf worlds of the Delnar System once again drastically increase in number. There are two notable dwarf planets in the form of Aasia and Eoree, both of which orbit far beyond the inner edge of the belt in the dark reaches of the system. There are numerous resource extraction projects throughout the outer belt, as well as many settlements within and around the asteroids there. The Outer Belt borders on the system's Limit Cloud, which contains a number of passerby rogue planets which were arguably the Delnar Empire's first extrasolar colonies.
Aasia
Aasia is the largest object in the Delnar System after Verri itself, only 10% less massive. Aasia is notable for its thin atmosphere and small pools of liquid oxygen, and is highly populated by those seeking to take advantage of its low temperatures for high computing power.
Eoree
Even more distant than Aasia and notable for its highly inclined and eccentric orbit, Eoree is a rapidly rotating dwarf planet almost 15 AU at its greatest distance from Delnar and cold enough for almost any gas to freeze onto the surface. However, its high eccentricity brings it much closer to Delnar at periapsis, causing a transient atmosphere to form during this period before freezing back onto the surface. This made early habitation challenging, but today it has the highest population of any object beyond Verri and Sil.
