The Eclipse is a birchworld, consisting of a number of large concentric shells built around Sagittarius A*. Constructed by Savros Worldbuilding, It is the capital of the Confederacy of Humanity and, during peacetime, serves as the main hub of the Milky Way's power generation, ship and vessel production, and as the home of the House of Tenacity. It was built in the years between 198,000CE and 199,000CE to serve as a fort and help direct the Confederacy of Humanity's extragalactic war efforts, during which a number of planets were mined and harvested for construction materials. During wartime, the Eclipse served as much needed shelter for important military assets and permitted the rapid fabrication of such assets.

History

Plans for the Eclipse date back to 194,000CE, several millennia before its construction. These plans initially pointed to a construct to be used for habitation, a concern beginning with the overpopulation of several smaller galaxies beyond the Milky Way. The challenges of building such a structure that could house the population of quintillions of planets, however, were seen as a needless expenditure. Opinions swayed over the next few centuries, before the plans were shelved. The construction of the first star-centred Ringworld during the 196th millennium by Savros Worldbuilding provided much insight into the hurdles of constructing a birchworld around a black hole. A cornerstone of the Eclipse's construction that allowed the project's fruition was a technique that allowed intergalactic space to be scraped of materials through the manipulation of virtual particles. Savros would use this technique to minimize the number of nebulae and inhospitable planets they would need to completely harvest for construction. Methods of straining unneeded materials from harvested planets would also permit materials to be reintroduced into systems as accretion disks, to recoalesce back into planets.

Landmarks

Outermost Shell

Located on the north pole, House of Tenacity is the living quarters of the President of the Confederacy of Humanity. The occupant during their given tenure is permitted to live within the house and is given free reign over the surrounding 122,000 square kilometres.
Located on the equator, Brigman-Elloway Factory is the main production facility of Brigman-Elloway Spaceways. It is the largest building in the Virgo Supercluster by volume, with a volume of 64,000,000 cubic kilometers.
Located on the south pole, a structure known colloquially as the Spire receives communications and telemetry from across the Milky Way and other nearby galaxies, rising several thousand kilometres above the surface of the outer shell.
Space traffic within the vicinity of the Eclipse is coordinated from a building at the base of the spire.
Located on the equator is a large wall-like structure, running along the entire circumference of the Eclipse and rising several kilometres above the surrounding terrain. Contained within are power conduits that distribute power to the rest of the structure. It is also the Eclipse's first line of defence, capable of emitting a pulse that can disable most technology. Along the top of these structures runs a personnel transport system.
Starting from the equator at equidistant intervals and ending at the poles are similar structures, used to distribute power to higher latitudes; these divide the planet into 12 distinct sectors used for the distribution of power.
