Elpida is a *Terran World, and the capital of the Empire of Mankind. Its alongside Mitra and Pax, one of three founding planets, and one of the three capitals of the former nation. The planet holds the Executive power of the Empire, hosting the Imperial Palace and the Imperial Senate. These buildings are among the biggest in the Empire, being propably the Imperial palace the biggest building in the entire nation.

Being one of the three founding members of the Empire, the planet is consider not only the capital of the Empire, but the center of the national identity and the main cultural center of the country. Here can be found the remains of the first colonist, the founding fathers of the nation, being ingrained in the hearts of all the Empire citizens.

Elpida is located in the Imperium system. It was named as such by the Emperor Kador III. It was known in the past as Anthropos System, as it was the seat of the Old Republic of Anthropos, made of Elpida and its former colonies, that would later be known as the Empire.

Most of the Emperors have being born in this planet and have made Elpida their homes and seat of power. It is considered by all citizens and ingrained in the Empire culture, that all Emperors to be consider as such, have to be crown in Elpida, under The Dome of a Thousand Stars.

Remains of the old days and history of the nation can be found throughout all regions of Elpida. Not only from the Empire's past, but from the Republic and the Colony Era. This is the main reason why millions of Citizens travel to Elpida to admire the greatness of the founding forefathers of the country, among other landmarks and attractive sites in the Planet.

Geography

Elpida has four main continents: Meltarna, Ashara, Bira and Golka. The most important ones in terms of population, economy and importance are Meltarna and Ashara. This two continents are they hold the Imperial City where the Imperial palace is located and the Imperial Senate.

Meltarna

It is a lush continent, full of verdant plains and forested terrain. Its the biggest of all the Continents in Elpida and holds the Imperial City and the Imperial Palace. It was one of the first continents where the early colony ships arrived being the other the continent of Ashara. When both colonies managed to settled up a bit communication between both was constructed via roads and later trains. Up until thst point both colonies were physically just in contact through spacecraft travel.

The continent has a very similar kind of structure to that of others. It is very fertile as well so soon the colonist turn to food production and a sequence of cities followed. The most important cities other than the capital in the continent are Adaris, Nova Anar, Trenburg and Oppida. Its total population is made of 25 Billion inhabitants.

Ashara

It is mild and lush but holds some the of the most beautiful mountains and landmarks in the planet. This continent Holds the Imperial Senate. The mines of the continent were soon exploited to make chemicals and industrial products.

It was one of the continents where the ealry human colony ships first landed the other being Meltarna. While Meltarna focused more on services and food production Ashara focused more on industrial production and mining activities. However nowadays agriculture and services have become crucial too. Meltarna has also turn into industrial production. It is famous for its textile industry, fashion, elegance and jewelry nowadays due to senate and the senators being in the continent. Tourism is also important duento its beautiful scenery.

Its main cities are Landras, Darbon, Ningjing and Formosus. The Population of Ashara is around 23 Billion inhabitants.

Bira

Bira is hot and selvatic, with its coast having a milder climate. It is a retirement spot for the wealthy. It is as well a large center of production of refine products, mining, agriculture and tourism. Pharmaceutical and scientific research are also keen on the local economy. The largest cities are Zaishan, Sundara and Toshor. The total population of Bira is 19 Billion.

Golka

It is quite cold in the north and mild in the south and center and is not very densely populated. The Highest mountains in the planet are located here. The Largest cities in the continent are Horis, Apeksa, Miridian and Laramersk

The Continent is a calm oasis in Elpida, where most senators and even the Emperor and its family retreat from time to time. Golka is the seat of the Summer palace of the Empire. A massive secluded structure covering around 350 000km2 were the nobility and the imperial family go from time to time during the warmer summer months of Elpida in the Northern hemisphere. However, they also go to the Planet Hestias, so when the family is not there, the place acts as the residence of the Heir to the throne or some other imperial family members. The Palace has small structures to host the court when the Emperors move in. Nevertheless, it is in the middle of a natural beautyfull paradise spot, with forests and snowy peaks all around. Its total population is 20 Billion.

History

Colony

Elpida was colonised by twelve colony ships carrying up to 8 billion human beings. The departure population was 500 to 700 million people per ship. Most of the Colonist were of Caucasian origin, with slight populations of East Asian, African and Indian origin. The Colonist were Anarians, coming from the world of Anar and from torn world from the War of the Decamillennial Transition. After the events of the Anarian Fever of 20,120 CE, that ravage the planet's population, the survivors left the Confederacy after discontent grew among the settlers due to bad treatment received by the authorities during the plague. They were joined by many war refugees, crossing through the Eye of Freedom wormhole from Via Aylathiya into the Lewis Galaxy.

The Colonist grew very discontent with issues back home, in Erstes Konsortium and looked up for a new beginning using the Hyperdrive technology. Scientist looked for a suitable home and found out a planet suitable for human life. In 20,166 CE, five ships departed for this world, located in the Lewis Galaxy. The system was named Anthropos (Human) and the Habitable Planet, Elpida, meaning "Hope" in ancient greek, as it was in search of hope that they were forced to leave their planet.

Here, the colonist soon spread and settled all over the planet. Settlements were quickly founded and soon became cities in all rights. The government was set in a Republic fashion, called the Republic of Elpida in the first stages of the planet's history.

Republic of Anthropos

The planet set up in motion population growth programs. And soon the population reached 4 billion. New planets had been discovered nearby by Elpidan scientist and the colonization of them soon began. The first two colonies were built in Mitra and Pax.

Population growth kept going and Mitra and Pax soon became well populated planets and other colonies started to follow. The Republic had to consider its status and was renamed Republic of Anthropos (or republic of Mankind in ancient greek). Two parties rose to power during these early days. The Yellow Haras Party and the Purple Thonan party.

The parties had been escalating in tensions and economic power and influence, to the point it was no longer sustainable, and both parties wage war against each other creating the First Civil War. The conflict was cruel and bloody, and it was stopped by a military coup led by Horis Tarnos, leader of the Military forces. He reinstituted the Republic, but it was transformed, forbidding bipartidism, with a minimum of five parties in action at all times. Horis was incredibly popular and was accounted as a figured called, the Guardian, and head of the Military. His purpose was to guard the republic and its people. Later, the Guardian figure was made hereditary.

War broke up again when the parties soon became corrupt and fought for inner power and influence Two party alliances wage war between them, and later allied together to defeat the Guardian Figure who was set to stop the five parties war. This event is known as the Second Civil War. The parties were to divided among them to pose a clear threat to the Guardian, who had popular support. The party and the republic were reformed and the Empire was born with the Guardian Hannakon I, grandson of Horis, being the first Emperor.

With the Empire, an era of prosperity and economic growth soon began. The Empire started to expand into former new colonies, terraforming new world and settling in them. The Capital saw the construction of bright new buildings, reorganization of city landscapes and much of the planetary infraestructure. As the center of a vast nation, wealth flooded the planet, and many rich wealthy members of society made the planet their home. The Capital Indara, or Imperial City saw an imprecedented expansion reorganization and embellishement which culminated with the end of the Nobility Wars, who saw all major noble houses relocate into Indara building up their luxurious mansions and bringing with them thousands of individuals.

The History of Elpida is as old as the history of the Lewis Nations. It expands from 20,166 CE to 100 000 CE (0 DL to 79 834 ADL), that is for about 79 834 years. It has become one of the centers of Humanity and one of the most important human worlds alongside Aegyn, often called "The Second Aegyn". It is worshipped as a second beacon of civilization.

Colony (20,166 - 22,331 CE: 2165 years -- 0 LA - 2165 ALD)

Before Settlement (± 400 BLD - 0 BLD)

The world of Elpida had been discovered by Anarian scientists soon after the discovery and profound study of the Eye of Freedom wormhole. Among the worlds set on the other side, Elpida was the most suited for Human life.

The Abeona Initiative was responsible for gathering settlers and colonies from damaged worlds, refugees and pioneers from various planets in the galaxy. The seemingly constant state of warfare initiated a mass exodus of 8 billion souls through the Eye of Freedom, a wormhole near the Anar System in Via Lacrimosa. This started with the Anarian Fever Crisis that ravaged Anar and thus the survivors, fed up with the galaxy, ended up setting this initiative and be prepared to leave.

The Parlament and the growing interests and booming economy of the new boyant nation was stabilized by two parties that rose to power during these early days. The Yellow Haras Party and the Purple Thonan Party.

The Continent Is divided in 4 mayor areas.

The Teraldai Plains

Located inland, it separates the Meltarna and Ashara. This large area of grass and scattered forests is located in the inner center. It is very fertile and large amount of farming and hearding has traditionally been going on here. On the border between the Yalomun river-bend and Dulkuma hills, the place where they join the Plains, the city of Adaris stands strong. For millennia it has been one of the biggest cities of the Planet and one of the Landing areas of the Twelve Colony Ships. It holds a special place in Imperial Minds. Some Emperors have been born in the city.

The Indara Bay

Home to the Imperial city. Its a bay of low land and plains sourrounded by some hills and mountains. The land crossed by a river. It was the home of the Guardian and a city called Indara. Soon, the city grew to overtake the entire plain to form a massive city that extends through 1 million km2. The bay is located around the end of the Yalomun River. It's home to the Imperial City, also Called Indara (from where the Bay takes it's name)

The Yalomun river-bend area

Large Yalomun River. The river goes far inland trespassing a bassin that is extremely fertile. It is the center of several minor cities, farms and many minor palaces. The region is known for producing the famous Yalom Wine, named after the river. The bassin is one of the most densely populated regions of Elpida and is a dinamic region economically and agriculturally. Its forested and usually a nice, middly tempered area to live. The Mountains of Morodain are the origin of the rive and set the marking point between the Teldarai Plains and the Yalomun River-bend. Nova Anar and Trenburg are mayor cities here.

Dulkuma Hills

An area of hills that expands all over the northern area of the planet. It is usually covered in forested terrain. Mining and Wood are important activities here, as well as energy production for the Indara Bay region. Oppida is one of the mayor cities in the area.

Economy

The Economy of Elpida is among the most important within the Empire of Mankind. For millennia, it was the center of production and comerce, notably during the Republic of Elpida and the Republic of Anthropos. After that the economy has been turning towards being an administrative center of the Executive power and to satisfy the needs of its wealthy population.

Elpida is currently one of the main centers of Luxury production items, exported all over the Empire. It is strategically located at the center of Imperial space, from which the expansion of the nation occur in concentrical circles. This has allowed for many routes to cross the system making Elpida a center of trade and a key important place in trade.

Administration and Executive Power

As an adminitrative center, it holds the main executive power of the nation. This is translated in the Senate and the Imperial Palace. Alongside those two, we have the houses of the many nobles which in turn are projections of the imperial executive might all across Imperial territory. Since the Nobility War and the reign of Thardos II, the nobility is force to mantain a house in the capital and reside at least partially here.

This restrictions have been eased with time as long as the Emperor powers were increased and those of the nobles limited. Now many families do not reside in the capital for very long anymore. However, the Planet has remained a center of Luxury and administration ever since. Large buildings with offices, bureaucrats etc are to be seen all over the planet. Specially within Ashara and the Imperial City (Indara). Many of them do require entertainment and many more amenities to sustain the population.

Luxury

As the capital of the Empire, home to many nobles and wealthy individuals and a center of power and prestige, it is regarded by its elaborate production of Luxury. Every person in the Empire wants to emulate the life and quality of life seen in Elpida. Many, specially the wealthy of any social class want to do "the Elpidan way". It is a source of pride to follow and pay attention to the current trends on going in the capital. The planets outside the core, may try to live as they do in the capital. For that, there is an ongroing market of luxury from Elpida, which has shaped the entire economy of the planet. Thus, all this items have become the main exporting commodity of Elpida.

Agriculture and Herding

Incredible as it is, the utopian way of life seen in the rural areas of the planet is still heavily based on agriculture and herding. Mass production and little scale farming are a way of life in many regions of Elpida. This has been possible only thanks to the fact that mass immigration to the Capital has been severely restricted to prevent Elpida to turn into an ecumenopolis. Only those born in Elpida or with a permit are allowed to reside in the capital. Travel to the capital is also somehow restricted to avoid mass concentrations of populance. All this has been done to preserve the natural fauna and flora of the planet and to safe its green space to use for production of food that feeds the planet. Actually, it was in Imperial will to be like that, so the planet was not dependant on importing food from abroad in case of siege by a foreign power.

Tourism

Its another important activity of Elpida. The capital is also the oldest world in Lewisian territory. The place with the Humans that currently make the Lewis Nations landed for the first time in the Lewis Galaxy from Via Lacrimosa. For that, it is regarded as a holy place, even by the other Lewis nations. Millions upon millions of tourists flock every year to Elpida from the Empire, the Union, the Intergalactic Federation, the United Alliance, the Plutocracy and the Republic of Sion, to see the holy lands of the early colonists who came in the Twelves colony ships of the forefathers. This has provided the planet with billions in profit. While international tourist arrive from every corner of the Lewis Nations and beyond to visit the historical grounds of the forefathers of the Lewisians, national tourism does not stay just there. Many go visit the planet for its significance in fashion, technology and history of the nation. They also visit the famous landscapes and natural landmarks such as the mountains of Golka or the pleasant shores of Bira.

Another interesting factor is the planet's gastronomy, famous all over. Many of the most refine cuisine can be found here, attending the nobility and the many wealthy who can afford it on a daily basis. Many come as gastronomic tourist to taste the wonders of Elpida cuisine that they so much have heard in their native planets.

Finance and Business

Elpida is a center of trade, a center of finance and one of the main centers of business activity in the Empire. It holds the seat of many of the largest companies in the nation. Although it isnt as important in this matter as Pax, it has a large history of importance in Finance and trade. One of the largest stock exchange in imperial territory can be found here. Every day, millions of financial assets are moved in Elpida alone.

However, due to the increasing standards of living in the planet, the cost of living or having a business open in the Planet, most notably in the Imperial city and Ashara has been impossible to bear. This has slowed the creation of new business activity in Elpida.

Trade companies exist in Elpida and function as they do in many other worlds. They benefit from the strategical location of the capital in the center of the Empire to distribute the items not only produced in the capital but in the corners of Imperial space and beyond.

Technology

Elpida is one of the most advance world in terms of technology. Small pieces and appliances are design here. In fact, more than production of technological design, it is a planet based mostly on design of knew technologies that are later sent to another planet for its construction. Many studios are based in the planet and many innovations are first tried in the capital and then exported nationwide or even internationaly.

Industry and Manufacturing

Although minor, it plays a role in the economy. The many mines have been exploited from time to time to avoid is exhaustion. Most of the material comes from the system and the nearby areas. Many arrive to the planet in order to be processed and used in the larger economy of the city to manufacture many items, most notably luxurious objects, grandiose buildings, textiles, tecnological aplliances, machinery for agriculture etc...

Energy production

Most of the Energy produced in the planet is based in the poles. Using water and sun to create vast amounts of energy to keep the planet going. The needs of Elpida for energy are constantly increasing and thus the energy production is a growing market in the planetary economy. Large pumps and energy transportations connect the centers of production with its main consumers, the civilian population.

Fauna and Flora

The Fauna and the Flora of Elpida are various and very diverse based on the ecosystem of the Planet. Each and everyone of the continents has it's own particular fauna and flora. This also includes the biodiversity over the oceans of Elpida. In general terms, Elpida is considered a world blessed by live. Most of the fauna are not extremely dangerous to humans and some of it's species can now be found in many terraformed worlds. The crops native to Elpida have also been exported. Some like the Gissu wheet, covered some of the fields of Elpida and half of the Empire of Mankind's agriworlds.

Elpida's flora and fauna has adapted well to offworlds and in turn has managed properly offworld xeno species brought in from afar. All of this has always be done carefully to avoid a contamination of xeno-fauna and flora over that of Elpida. All introduction of foreign biological material has been carefully monitored and implanted on Elpida successfully.

Population and Society

The total population of Elpida is 87 billion individuals. The entire populance of Elpida is largely concentrated in the continents of Ashara and Meltarna. This two continents are closely followed by Golka and finally by Bira, which is the least populated.

Society

The population of the planet is divided between Citizens and not Citizens

Citizens (71%)

Are members with citizenship of the Empire, able to vote and to elect senators, judges and Legislators among the candidates presented to them. They have rights and duties in accordance to Imperial Law. They are divided in three cathegories. Nobles, Wealthy, Common People

Nobles (5%)

In Elpida, they make a large part of the population. They are extremely numerous in the Planet as it is the center and capital of the Empire and a center of power. Every noble was to be close to the Emperor to have and adquire power from him. Most are low nobility and few are high nobility. However, those of the High Houses do have enough power and influence for it to be noticeable within the world. High Nobles and the Imperial Family (1%), Low Nobles (4%)

Wealthy Citizens (9%)

They are those among the common people who thanks to trade, business or their own merit have attaigned large amounts of wealth and literally have become rich. In some cases even as rich as the High Noble Houses. These powerful class, specially the richest of them, try to marry into the nobility or the low nobility at least. Quite Rich (3%), Rich (3%), Very Rich (2%) and Extremely Rich (1%)

Common People (57%)

They are the most common class of citizens. About 57% of the population belongs to this group. It can as well be divided among the middle-high class (16%), the middle class (21%), the middle-low class (15%) and the low class (5%). Each of this groups make the entirety of the working masses.

Non Citizens (29%)

In Elpida, non citizens have traditionally be slaves. However, nowadays it takes as well inmigrants with residential permits but no voting rights at least just yet, and illegal immigrants. Slaves however make the bulk of this class.

Slaves (23%)

They are divided into 2 groups, Human-born Slaves (9%) and Clone Slaves (14%). The first ones are in decay and mostly employed in nicer jobs such as housing, services and other less physical or hard tasks. Clone slaves are used by corporations, the state, services and more rarely into households. Slaves in Elpida make a significant amount of the population as they are very much needed by the high amount of nobles and wealthy individuals in the nation.

Immigrants (4%)

Those lucky enough to have obtained legally a migration permit that allows them to reside in Elpida. They may belong to any social class, except for the nobility. Most are National Migrants while others are international migrants. From foreign embassadors to a recently relocated rich family or a farmer seeking a new life in the capital, all are technically non citizens. The only exception here is for those national migrants which do have citizenship status to vote on national matters but do not have a say in Planetary government.

Illegal immigrants (2%)

Known for being a significant minority, it is made of people looking for opportunities in the capital and managing to scape from authorities sneaking in the planet. However, conditions for illegal migrants are brutal since Elpida, specially the Imperial city are expensive places to live and not the most suitable for the least favoured by society.

Imperial City

Also known as Indara, its old name, this Large city is the center of Elpida and the center of the Empire. It is massive, covering around 1 million km2, sprawling itself all along the delta of the Yalom river. Around 20 Billion inhabitants are said to reside here. It holds the Imperial Palace, the Imperial Garden and the Dome of a Thousand Stars, as well as many significant buildings like the National Imperial Library of Archives. The city is divided into sectors and areas. The further from the core, where the Palace is located, the poorer the area is, usually slave sectors. Towards the center, the Nobles and Wealthy inhabitants reside in opulence. In between the Slave sectors and the Nobles and the Wealthy live the Common people.
