Gambo
The Gambo also known as the Gambian River Dolphin or Kunthum Belein is a species of aquatic tenrec related to the Potamogalidae endemic to the Gambia River, which runs through north Guinea, Senegal and The Gambia.
Description
Gambo reach average lengths of 14-17 feet in length. They are covered in very short, fine hair that is entirely brown except for on the underbelly which is white. the typical Gambo's front pair of flippers measure 1.5 feet (0.46 m) long by 8 inches (200 mm) wide.
Gambo lack dorsal fins or flukes, instead swimming using a serpentine movement of the tail they can go into bursts of speed by paddling with all four flippers, but usually these are used for steering.
Ecology
Gambo are solitary fish-eaters but will also dig in the bottom of the river for invertebrates.
Gambo are predated on by crocodiles and sharks.
