Overview

Garveon

Garveon is the only planet orbiting Caphitis. It is a chthonian planet that is constantly bombarded by radiation, heat and Caphitis-matter lifted from Caphitis's solar wind. As a result, it is almost constantly hovering at more than 3500 degrees Celsius, and is one of the hottest planets in Ambrosia.

Properties

Garveon is a chthonian planet. This means that it was once a gas giant but it is having its atmosphere stripped away via Caphitis's solar wind.

Atmosphere

Garveon's atmosphere has a substantial amount of Carbon Dioxide compared to similar bodies, as it was a gas giant with a lot of hydrogen, and some of that hydrogen still remains swirling in its atmosphere. Most of the helium that was present is gone, and its atmosphere is only comprised of 0.433% helium.

Surprisingly, not much of the atmosphere is ionised - only the lower atmosphere is. It seems that most of the mass of Garveon's atmosphere is concentrated close to the ground in ionised supercritical form - a very strange form indeed. The upper atmosphere is cooler than that, being able to keep being a gas, albeit a very hot one. As the lower atmosphere is so pressured and hot, nuclear fusion takes place there, enriching the surface with heavy elements. So far, Garveon is the only known planet in Ambrosia to definitely have fusion going on in its atmosphere, but several candidates exist.

History

In the past, Garveon formed as a gas giant. It was perhaps around a Jupiter in mass when it finished forming (about 300000 years ago), but Caphitis's intense solar wind, which would only get more powerful, immediately started taking its toll on Garveon's atmosphere. It is only a fraction its original mass.

But as Caphitis entered the WNh stage, its solar wind started to increase in strength, and just in 30000 more years its atmosphere was reduced to nearly nothing. and for the first time in its life, Garveon's surface was visible.

From here, its atmosphere continued to steadily thin, until now. It is still producing a lot of atmosphere, but more of it is disappearing, giving it a comet-like tail of atmospheric gases. The tail grows whenever Caphitis is at its biggest as this is whenever its mass loss rate is the highest.

Other information

Garveon is basically untouchable due to its extreme temperature, but several plans have been made to strip material off Garveon's surface to use as materials, because it is a very resource-rich planet, with many rare metals found in great quantities under that pesky star-like atmosphere.
