Ghoul

A species descended from Humans that have been exposed to Primordial Ooze, they originate from the damp, limestone caverns and fungal forests of Dante's Pit.

Civilization

Despite their rather barbarous society and culture, Ghoul civilization is very advanced. Rather than having cities, Ghouls live in giant towering citadels that often span from the floor to ceiling of the massive caverns they live in. In the modern day, Ghouls also make use of helicopter-like aircraft for crossing over long distances. Interestingly, the Ghouls have giant elevators that they use to travel between levels and cave systems.

Culture

Ghouls do evil and mischief because they think its funny. Iconic Ghoul pranks include selling drugs to children, calling in false bomb threats and graffitiing slurs on public property.

Ghouls worship the chaos deity known as the Demogorgon. They believe he created the Primordial Ooze and intentionally exposed the Ghouls to it as his chosen people. Their religious texts also state that a prophet adorned in black and white would descend into Dante's Pit from the surface world, who would lead them in a holy purging of the heretics that ruled the surface. This prophecy aligned perfectly with Slimsnout Lagine and her discovery of Dante's Pit, which is something she played into.
