Giant Anaconda

The Giant Anaconda (Eunectes colossaeus) is the largest species of snake in the world, surpassing the runner up the Green Anaconda (a close relative), by over twice its length.

Description

Normally reaching a staggering 50 feet in length some exceptional individuals were measured at over 65 feet, one animal that was discovered during the Summerlee-Challenger expedition was 150 feet in length. Living under a waterfall that originated from the Lost World Plateau, it feed on the carcasses of large dinosaurs that fell from above. It was later revealed that this animal ws able to grow so large due to a genetic mutation and it is likely that no other snakes will be able to reach comparable lengths.

They are primarily black, with red and gold markings all over the body.

Ecology

Giant Anacondas are almost entirely aquatic when full grown, being so large that they are unable to breathe without being supported by water, though smaller animals can freely move on land until they reach about 35 feet in length.

When laying eggs, a female will bring her cloaca out of the water, while safely underwater. She will then lay the eggs in a riverbank nest and guard them while they incubate.
