Singular Jötunn, also called Kaiju, Titans, Nephilim, Giants etc. The Jötnar are a group of colossal organisms found across the planet. before 2,500 years ago there were hundreds of different species. but now only relatively few remain and in incredibly small numbers.
Humans often used to revere these creatures as gods, they function essentially like Earth's nervous system.
History
The first Jötnar evolved recently, only at the end of the Miocene about 5 million years ago. The exact pressures experienced by these species as well as how it was physically allowed to happen is a mystery.
Most Jötnar were killed after the events of Ragnarok in 2,500 BCE
