Krigner

The Krigner are a tall, bipedal, repto-avian species native to the deciduous and coniferous forests of Tethys 3.

They are an herbivorous species, who despite their fearsome appearance and deadly natural defenses are (mostly) peaceful people.

History

The Krigner diverged from the lineage that evolved into the Grirrud 2.5 million years ago

Their lineage became herbivores opposed to their carnivorous relatives and ancestors, their tail and arm blades evolved to effortlessly cut bark from trees or mosses and lichens off stones. While their teeth stayed sharp, they changed to cut through leaves and stems rather than flesh.

Though not used to kill, the Krigner ancestor’s natural weaponry protected them from the variety of fearsome predators that call the Arnian Woods home.

Culture

Krigner culture is one founded on peace and harmony with nature, and other Krigner. Mental and emotional wellbeing is considered just as vital as one’s physical wellbeing. The Krigner are deeply spiritual, taking great care to keep their soul healthy, which usually entails something the individual values or finds relaxing. Such as spending time with family, resting at home or playing games with friends. Many Krigner practice philosophy, Krigni philosophy often asks questions related to their relationships with nature and the cosmos, which has helped them quickly and readily adapt to galactic society.

A popular Krigner sport is a form of Martial Arts known as Krla-Varr, which roughly translates to english as blade-fighting. The practice dates back over 4000 years and likely stems from the prehistoric Krigner's intraspecific sparring for things like mates and rights for the best browsing spots. In modern times Krla-Varr is normally practiced while having one's blades covered with a dense cloth made of plant fibers known as a Krlei in order to prevent fatal injuries to the parties involved.

Appearance and Biology

Krigner are bipedal repto-avians with a vaguely dinosauroid body, standing at about 9-11 feet in height, and weighing about 500 - 700 lbs. They possess sharp blades made of bone and chitin running down their necks, backs and tails with 3 to 5 longer blades made solely of chitin on the backs of their arms, these blades are used in self defense and occasionally in intra-specific combat. The blades are strongly reinforced which allows them to be swung wildly about and prevent breakage, though if an arm blade does happen to break in combat, it will eventually regrow, albeit slowly.

Krigner are entirely herbivorous, feeding on tree bark, mosses, lichens, leaves, fruits and flowers, they have a robust digestive system capable of processing extremely tough and fibrous vegetation
