Lake Ichthyosaurs
Ranging across the sub-arctic. Native to the innumerable unexplored glacial lakes of Alaska, Canada, the Pacific Northwest, and Great Lakes Region. The Lake Ichthyosaurs (Neostenopterygidae; Arctostenopterygius cryptopterus species Complex) are a species complex of Freshwater Ichthyosaurs containing a staggering 1,800 species.
Biology
Species in this complex average out at 3 feet in length.
Ecology
Each species of Lake Ichthyosaur is native to one or two Freshwater Lakes that began to form at the end of the Last Glacial Period around 14,000 years ago, as retreating ice sheets exposed the basins they had carved into the land, which then filled with meltwater. A series of meltwater floods allowed a handful of or a single species of ancestral lake whale to migrate to hundreds of lakes, where they were then isolated and began to evolve into new species.
Lake Ichthyosaurs are often mid-level open-water predators of their water body, but many others fill the role of forage fish . the are often predated on by other members of Glacial Lake species Complexes such as Lake Zeuglodonts, Lake Dragons (Strataverse), Lake Ammondosaurs, Lake Mosasaurs, Lake Serpents, Lake Plesiosaurs, and Variable Lake Monsters, as well as Northern Pike, Muskellunge and Raptors such as Bald Eagles and Osprey. Ichthyosaurs are also often eaten by Humans. The Lake Superior Salmo-saur has recently become a popular choice at many restaurants and sushi bars.
