Description
Long Range Wormholes are massive start and end-points for wormholes, which are commonly placed inside the warp bubble of Warp Generation Ships. There are likely dozens Cluster Portal end-points in the vicinity of said warp bubble at a time. Long Range Wormholes are usually many kilometers in length, allowing for many ships to go through at a time. Long Range Wormholes also have a very high upkeep, costing almost impossible amounts of exotic matter to keep open. As a result, only two entities, (The Supreme and the Quintet Puontari Federation) are able to even sustain them. The Supreme, being relatively new to this technology, can only support a few small Long Range Wormholes at a given time, making their invasion of the QPF even harder than normal.
Long Range Wormholes are usually build around a frame, which on its own has many abilities. From being able to stabilize the main wormhole, and having a secondary wormhole in the frame to send in and out simple objects and messages without having it cost too much. Other experiments and uses are seen in the Cluster Portal frame, but are usually unique to their own portal, making it futile to list them here.
The largest Long Range Wormholes, able to fit Warp Generation Ships, are very rare in quantity. Exactly 2 exist in the entirety of the Alliance's collection, but it lets Cluster Portal production become much less cumbersome.
History
Long Range Wormholes were first created alongside the Warp Generation Ship project by the Quintet Puontari Federation. This was an attempt to explore multiple galactic clusters, like the Salis and Borealis. Other clusters were filled with many hostile and annoying civilizations, something that the Alliance wanted to avoid. When they saw the energy required for this, it worried them severely. If they got even one thing wrong, it would set them back in resources severely. Luckily, it worked for them, and they could proceed with their project.
After they arrived in their destinations, the Quintet Puontari Federation promptly created many facilities for the creation of exotic matter and antimatter. Eventually, after many quarrels over resources and claims, they pressingly declared war against the entirety of the Intergalactic Council. They both ended up getting decimated after the war, and signed a peace treaty that let the Alliance hold some territory in the Borealis. Eventually, Long Range Wormholes became more widespread as the Alliance grew more cordial to the nations in the Borealis Cluster. Technology was also shared to the nations that were to kindest, leaving the Supreme out of the equation. This made them very aggravated, pretty much forcing them into their own Cluster Portal project. By 99,999 CE, they had delivered several Cluster Portal end-points to the 7-L Cluster.
What followed is typically called the Exhumation. As the Supreme invaded the Ophiuchus Cluster, they surprise attacked the Quintet Puontari Federation. Eventually, the Alliance sent a message to the Borealis Cluster, warning them of the dangerous AIs. Since then, the Supreme's Cluster Portal usage went up, and their defenses around the Salis Cluster has exploded dramatically.
