Overview
The Mages Guild, (known by numerous other names and titles, though it is most commonly referred to by tertiary titles such as the Wizards Guild or the Arcane Society) is an intercontinental collective association of Magically Sensitive individuals found all across the world and even beyond it. They are considered to be the the eldest organized group in known history, with origins far beyond the emergence of written record; dating as far back as the Time Once Remembered, prior to the arrival of the Edia on Haven.
The Guild itself is comprised of numerous organized groups, factions, and divisions; each of which share a centralized network with that of the Guild itself. Collectively; the Guild operates under its codified code of conduct known as the Mysteriel Concord. The Concord itself is an ancient and enchanted manuscript detailing the "Thirteen Principles" which are to "Govern all Manaborne in good fellowship amongst their kindred." Despite it being the commonly accepted founding ledger of the Guild, its exact author(s) remain unknown. It operates as the overarching central Charter in which all subsequent member organizations must defer to, though observance of this deference varies.
As detailed in the Mysteriel Concord, the Guild's founding ethos is to unite all the world capable of manipulating the Mystical Forces in a common goal of seeking to both increase their proficiency in the Arcane Artes, and to study the "Higher Mysteries" of Mana as a whole. However; unlike its foundational principles, the exact founder(s) of the Mages Guild have, for all of history, remain uncertain. Millennia long debate has been held across the world; born from contention over both those who had formed the Guild, and as to where it was established.
Though its founding ideals are one of common access to the Mystical Artes, in practice, the Mages Guild often acts as a collective gatekeep and safeguard against unregistrant Magic Sensitives from accessing the full breadth of their gift without the Guild's explicit consent. To accomplish this, the Mages Guild, despite being an independent entity, works with national and divisional powers in order to catalog all known Magic Sensitives into an immense written record held by the Guild known as the Manifest of Lower Arcana; though despite what its title might suggests the Manifest in actuality exists as a series of written indexes held as one enumerative codex.
Its many member organizations each posses varying names and titles, however all groups collectively share the title of the internal colloquial of "Chapters." Chapters of the Mages Guild can be found all over the world, with at least one prominent Mystical member organization being founded within every major nation of the world.
