Maokia

Scope: Borealis Universe
From Amaranth Legacy, available at amaranth-legacy.community

"We began as wanderers, and we are wanderers still."
This content is a part of Borealis Universe.

Homeworld of the Kyare'Aka and Tyae, Maokia is a cool J-Class life full planet home to almost five million species of aerial creatures. It is located 2,542 light years from Earth, in a solar system found high above the galactic plane of the Milky Way Galaxy.

Maokia with its clouds whipped up to speeds of 1800 mph (804 m/s, 2896 km/h).

Overvie

Orbiting every 1.38 years at a distance of 1.28 AU from a Sun-like star, it experiences temperatures of roughly -46 celsius. At this temperature almost all year round, life can still survive and thrive in the atmosphere.

The most common creature is the Riola, a hot air balloon-like creature about 40 meters (131 ft) in height. They feed off the energy from lightning strikes that constantly rage in the gas giant's atmosphere.

Life on Maokia has experienced eight mass extinctions in the last 4 billion years.

Civilization

The planet is inhabited by a late Type 0 civilization called the Kyare'Aka's. First appearing on Maokia almost 300,000 years ago, they constructed an entire civilization about 18,000 years ago. Although there are no landmasses on gas giants, Kyare'Aka's domesticated the large, 1 km-wide Tyae to build their cities on. On the backs of Tyae are resources that Kyare'Aka's can harvest and use in their civilization.

Kyare'Aka are at a similar technological stage as Humans were in the 21st century.

Moons

Maokia is orbited by 98 moons, three of these are large moons, two orbiting close to the gas giant and one on a highly inclined and elliptical orbit far from the planet.

The third moon is a warm D-Class moon called Eke'Nel, inhabited by a million types of species. Due to the scarce amounts of water on the surface, most of the creatures dig into the ground to find a layer of water ice. Some of this ice melts and becomes liquid water; only for a short time until it becomes ice again.

Life

Life on Maokia has been evolving for 3.7 billion years, beginning as simple cellular floating microbes in the atmosphere and eventually becoming multicellular aerial animals in the last 520 million years. The most dominant animal, apart from the Kyare'Aka, are the Riola. With an average lifespan of 14 years, they were not the best choice for the Kyare's to build their civilization on. The Tyae were soon used as an area for the Kyare's to build their civilization, because of their large size (between 0.75 km to 3.5 km) and long lifepan of 1700 years.
