Martina Neidrels (7,765–7,891 CE) was a Vangelian vice admiral best known for winning the Battle of Coria during the High Covenant’s invasion of her country. In 7,800 CE, she reached the position of commander of the 7th Fleet of the Vangelian Navy. Distress from parents’ death in 7,807 CE caused her to retire that same year, after which she left public life. In her final decades, she returned to it by publishing an extensive autobiography.

Born to Adyssa and Tareck Neidrels, respectively her mother and father, Martina had a very close relationship with her parents in her youth. They cared deeply for her, and as she grew, they put great effort on her independence and sociability. She enrolled in her first military school at age 14, her grades ranking consistently above those of fellow students. At 19, she joined the Helios Region Naval College (HRNC) and moved to Mars for studies. Six more years later, in 7,790 CE, she received a commission for the rank of junior lieutenant in the Vangelian Navy. Her contact with her parents was subsequently restricted, but she still appreciated them regardless.

In the navy, Martina earned a reputation for her frequent displays of compassion while also taking her job very seriously. She easily befriended people in and out of the military, including senior government officials. However, believing her productivity could lower dramatically if she involved herself in a romance or a similarly intimate relationship, she always asserted her social boundaries, even to new friends. One way she preferred to show her utmost trust to someone was by introducing them to her family.

Experience led Martina to believe Vangelia could easily repel the High Covenant from its territory. Her belief was shaken following many of the defeats her country suffered over the course of the invasion. When Vangelian military intelligence discovered the High Covenant’s plans to move into the Pandilla System in 7,806 CE, Martina and fellow vice admiral Devi Briega of the 3rd Fleet, driven by their frustration of the war, rallied the entirety of their forces for the upcoming engagement. As soon as the 11th Fleet of the High Covenant, also in full strength, entered the system, the two Vangelian fleets attacked it, but at a grave cost. The 3rd Fleet and its commander were completely destroyed, whereas the 7th was pushed to the orbit of Coria. Deadset on protecting her family, Martina chose not to retreat, no matter how much she would sacrifice. Before the battle ended, an enemy laser blew up the bridge of her command vessel, knocking her unconscious. Fortunately for her, the 11th Fleet, burdened by its own losses, needed to flee the system.

Awakening in a hospital on Risnucis, the capital city of Coria, Martina rushed to learn the status of her parents. Checking her childhood home, she was told they had moved to a safer district. Upon investigating the district in question, she found nothing but piles of rubble, emergency vehicles surrounding the area and both workers and civilians searching for buried people. She joined their effort, only to uncover the charred corpses of her mother and father. Stress overwhelmed her senses and she fainted, being transported to the same hospital she had been in earlier. The next time she was conscious, she had trouble processing her parents’ death. She felt as if she had lost her purpose, so to find a new one, she decided to leave the military and adopt homelessness.

Personal Characteristics

Appearance

Martina Neidrels was a female neohuman with tan skin, dark brown hair, and vibrant green eyes. Her nose was small, her jawline rounded, and her chin linear. She had a fairly muscular physique, lacking excessive amounts of fat, even after she had been discharged. In general, she kept her body this way for health reasons, but regarding her muscularity, it was never very great because of her fondness for running exercises. She preferred to have a short, unstraightened bob-cut hairstyle. She had a prominent burn at the tip of her upper left arm (not easily visible due to her prosthetics) as well as multiple war-related scars.
