Template:Species TemplateThe Molkor are a sapient species from the planet Hathia. They were one of the founding species of the Confederacy of Borealis as well as being one of the most common species at two percent of the total population. They mostly reside in the nation Molkoryo. While naturally very aggressive, the Molkor have learned to use various drugs, enhancements, and other altercations to make themselves less animalistic and more well-suited to living in a technological civilization.
The species was originally a part of Sedrua, an ancient civilization once controlling the majority of the Local Universe. In 166,733 BCE, the Molkor and another species in the area, the Ror Units, declared independence and formed their own nation simply called The Diunity. Afterwards, the Molkor became remarkably isolationist, doing little to expand outside of their galaxy. By 51,000 BCE, the entire galaxy was colonized and invisible to the naked eye. The next time they left their galaxy was with the founding of the Spiral Expeditionary Force, an armed force capable of exerting influence at any point in Via Sagittaria and its satellites. They would eventually use this force to aid in the creation of the Confederacy of Borealis of which they would be a part. Currently, the vast majority of Molkor live in Molkoryo with only a fraction of a percent residing elsewhere.
Biology
The Molkor have fairly standard biochemistry, simple nucleic acids link together to form their genetic material which, in turn, codes for the various proteins needed by the individual. The Molkor have a complex natural social order with various "roles" that each tribe needed. Some individuals, male and female alike, would naturally focus on children or the injured, some focused on gathering aquatic food and fruit, while the rest would hunt in packs. They evolved intelligence to better help them coordinate their hunting against what was becoming increasingly intelligent prey.
The Molkor were originally a very aggressive race. While they were communal, their instincts prevented the tribe from growing beyond about fifty members, causing any "extras" to be expelled to join other tribes. This natural strategy allowed for a larger gene-pool, but was by no means useful for forming agrarian societies. They would become stressed in groups of over fifty to the point of extreme aggression.
The Molkor have four "hands" affixed to muscular arms with three joints. Each joint, save for the middle, can move in three-hundred sixty degrees. When the Molkor were primitive group-hunters, they would use these arms to move through the thick foliage covering Hathia. Eventually, they would also be used to manipulate tools and spears, allowing them to hunt outside of forested areas. They can balance on their hind legs for limited amounts of time. Their movements are fluid and, like humans, evolved to favor endurance hunting over short bursts of energy. They have brown skin rich in UV absorbing compounds and layers of fat that accumulate in winter for the sake of insulation. The Molkor have two eyes facing forward as most predators do.
The Molkor are semi-carnivorous, mostly eating meat from land-based animals and aquatic animals. The type of animal does not matter, anything with meat can be ingested. Due to the sporadic nature of the availability of meat, the Molkor evolved the ability to eat certain types of common plants. These plants are mostly rich in protein and are often just the nuts or seeds rather than the main body of the plant.
Elisis
In about 245,000 CE, one of the larger tribes found a somewhat nutritious and plentiful plant that contained a neurotoxin paralyzing most animals. The Molkor, as partial carnivores were immune. Rather than paralyze, the effect the toxin had was removing this aggression in the vast majority of individuals. The tribe soon became the largest after they figured out they no longer had to expel individuals if everyone ate the plant. Shortly after, they began to grow the plant themselves. Other tribes soon learned of the plant and the first kingdoms formed. Control of arable land became the most important thing that would decide the fate of nations. Armies, crews on ships, villages, and any other social structure would fall into ruin if denied the plant. It became known as "Elisis" a word that originally meant "life," as without it, proper civilization was unable to function. Currently, the substance within the Elisis plants is synthesized by artificial bacteria residing in the brains of the Molkor.
