Map of Monster Island

Monster Island is a gigantic artificial landmass in the Pacific Ocean, near Fiji. The island is owned and operated by the SDR who use the location to relocate various creatures, mutations and even Kaiju who pose an immanent threat to a population of people

History

Island Infrastructure

Each species has its own enclosure. Separated from other species, though this system is only a deterrent and should a monster choose to wander, they are allowed, albeit under supervision by a team of field biologists in order to prevent fights or predation on the other monsters.

The Island is home to 9 different artificial ecosystems designed to accommodate creatures from multiple habitats around the globe

Monster Pound: where new arrivals or creatures who are having issues with conspecifics can be held. Below that is a huge research lab known colloquially at the Pit, where deceased Kaiju/Monster specimens can be studied and preserved. The pit is also home to an extensive genetic bank where DNA, sperm, eggs, embryos and live tissue of thousands of species are kept in cold storage.

Meat Growing Lab: This large complex is where all of the meat for the island's carnivores is grown. Artificially cultured cells from Catte, Chickens, Goats, Pigs, Salmon and Octopus have been cultivated into skyscraper sized monoliths of pure meat that have no brains, organs, blood or bones. Meat from these cultures can be shaved off effortlessly by nutrition-staff and will grow back within the day. Organs and bones are also grown en masse to give appropriate nutrition to

The meat lab is also where vast colonies of feeder insects and small fish are bred..

  • Brown Rat
    • Stowed Away on transport and cargo ships docked on the island.
    • Habitat: Everywhere
  • Vervet Monkey
    • Introduced to test for safe human habitability on the artificial island. The experiment was successful and rather than tracking down the breeding monkey colonies, it was decided to let them stay, where they occasionally become food for mid-sized monsters but otherwise thrive.

    • Introduced to be food for large monsters.
    • Habitat: Plateau, Lowland Plains, Coastal Plains
  • Black Angus Cattle
    • Introduced to be food for large monsters.
    • Habitat: Plateau, Lowland Plains, Coastal Plains

    • Introduced to be food for large monsters.
    • Habitat: Plateau, Lowland Plains, Craggy Mountain, Coastal Forest

    • Introduced to be food for large monsters. Easily the most populous of the introduced prey species, breeding quickly and being able to defend themselves from smaller monsters. They are the most frequently preyed upon species on the island, keeping their population in check
    • Habitat: Everywhere
  • Red Deer
    • Introduced to be food for large monsters.

Naturally Immigrated Wildlife

A variety of animals have naturally found their way onto Monster Island since its construction. Naturalizing themselves and strengthening the local ecosystem with their presence.

Pacific Sheath-tailed Bats are the only “native mammal” found on the island, likely having migrated from Fiji.

A dozen or so Birds have immigrated to the island from Fiji and other nearby islands including Long-tailed Koel, White-rumped Swiftlet, Buff-banded Rail, White-browed Crake, Pacific Reef-Egret, Australasian Marsh Harrier, Pacific Kingfisher, Polynesian Triller, Slaty Monarch, Pacific Robin, Pacific Swallow, Silvereye, Polynesian Starling

A handful of reptiles have been found on the island, most likely having been washed ashore on natural rafts and carried by tropical storms. Mourning Geckos, Copper-tailed Skinks, Indo-Pacific House Geckos, Pacific Dtellas, Indo-Pacific Slender Geckos and Pelagic Geckos have all naturalized and exploded in population, becoming common in all habitats across the island.

Ocean Wildlife

Monster island is surrounded by several large artificial reefs, which provide a home to a wide variety of marine species including Manta Rays, Reef Sharks, Morays, Jacks, Trevallies, Skipjack Tuna, Milkfish, Lionfish, and a large diversity of Damselfish, Angelfish, Wrasses, Parrotfish, Butterflyfish and Surgeonfish

Marine Mammals visit frequently, including Blue, Minke, Sei, Fin, Humpback and Sperm Whales, Dwarf Sperm Whales, Beaked Whales, Pilot Whales, False Killer Whales, Melon-headed Whales, Rough-toothed, Bottlenose, Striped, Spinner, Spotted and Common Dolphins, and Orcas

Marine Reptiles include 3 sea turtles (Green, Hawksbill and Loggerhead), Slender-necked Sea Snake, Blue-lipped Sea Krait and Yellow-lipped Sea Krait. Sobek also frequently visits the coasts while on his worldwide patrols.

Seabirds are found all over the island, but are most plentiful around the coasts, Brown and Black Noddies, White, Sooty, Black-naped and Greater Crested Terns, White-tailed and Red-tailed Tropicbirds, Tropical Shearwaters, Lesser Frigatebirds, and Masked, Brown and Red-footed Boobies are all very abundant and will breed on the island.

In 2006 a giant squid found itself in the shallows, where it lived for 2 weeks before dying and washing ashore, where it was promptly eaten by various island creatures.

Evironments

Being an artificial landmass, Monster Island has a wide variety of unique ecosystems, specifically designed to comfortably house any potential creature that may need to be brought to the island

Central Plateau

The Plateau, Jun 22 2014

The Central Plateau lies in the center of the island it is a wide, open and mostly flat savannah. It gets very hot out on the plateau as well, allowing for it to serve as a suitable home for most desert and savannah native monsters.

Mountains

The highest point on the island. The base of the mountain is even hotter and drier than the plateau, though climbing to higher altitudes will take one to a cold, snowy biome, the frigid climate is assisted by advanced climate control tech within the Mountain's center, allowing for a strange mix of arid desert and polar tundra creatures calling this region home.

The mountain is also intersected by hundreds of caves, both large in small, drawing in the variety of cave-dwellers on the island.
