Template:InfoboxPlanetMontraxas is the sole natural satellite of the planet Yanrin, of the Otus system. It is an selena moon that lies some 30,000 kilometers away, being slightly larger and more massive than Luna.
Description
Montraxas is a relatively normal S-Class body, with its crust primarily being composed of silica, alumina, and iron oxides. It was most likely formed by a significant collision of Yanrin with another similarly sized body during the early formation of the Otus system. The impact is believed to have been struck deep into Yanrin, as demonstrated by higher concentrations of core elements (such as nickel and titanium) on Montraxas' crust.
Being slightly more massive than the Earth 's moon, Montraxas possesses a surface gravity of 0.173 Earth gravities. It lacks any significant atmosphere of its own, though occasionally it would capture escaping light gases (such as hydrogen or helium) released by natural or industrial processes on Yanrin to form a temporary, extremely tenuous, atmosphere.
Its close proximity to Yanrin meant that its parent is a massive object in the skyline of Montraxas' near side. The tidal locking implies however that Montraxas is only ever visible from one side of Yanrin, and vice versa. It was believed that the two bodies had influenced each other's volcanism before tidal locking occurred, as evidenced by the presence of many extinct volcanoes on Montraxas' surface.
History
Montraxas was first charted alongside Yanrin in 199,830 by the Yanrin Colonization Company (YCC). As Yanrin itself was colonized in 199,833 - 199,837, Montraxas was left as is due to a relative lack of need to harvest ores from the satellite. It wasn't until 199,850, when 45,000 people already moved to Yanrin, when YCC also established land divisions on Montraxas and set up an outpost there.
The satellite did not have significant economic importance due to the still pristine mineral reserves on Yanrin, at least until factories begin to be established. The first proper settlement on Montraxas was a mining settlement setup in 199,863, which was followed by a low-gravity vacuum manufactory the following year. Slow growth of settlement on Montraxas continued, until 199,935, when the Yanrin Spaceyard was founded. Due to the Spaceyard's requirement for a non-atmospheric and low-gravity environment, Montraxas became the site of its final assembly, launching, and manufacturing of certain parts, generating a large number of jobs and attracting colonists. Within 5 years of the Spaceyard's establishment, its facilities on Montraxas had resulted in the population more than quintupling from 16,000 to 85,000.
The Spaceyard's growth directly resulted in continued demographic growth to Montraxas, and its presence there attracted many smaller companies and factories, as logistical links between Montraxas and Yanrin became more and more efficient. This also attracted people who wanted to live in Montraxas while working on Yanrin, and used the mass driver passenger transport while living on much cheaper settlements. Due to all these factors, Montraxas' population passed 1 million on 199,992.
Economy
As mentioned, Montraxas' economy is driven by the Spaceyard, which directly employs 105,000 people on Montraxas and indirecly employs another 145,000. This is roughly 40% of the total labor force of Montraxas. The mining and transport industries employs another 30%, with 25% being employed in various other industries (agriculture, services, retail, etc.) and the remaining 5% being commuters from Montraxas to Yanrin. It is almost entirely dependent on Yanrin for the trade of its goods, with only 3% of its exports going elsewhere. Practically all its exports and imports pass through Yanrin, before being launched in with mass drivers.
The approximate GDP of Montraxas is 232 billion C-Units, or 181,250 C-Units per capita.
Politics
Montraxas' populace is represented in the Yanrin People's Council, with 5 representatives out of the council's total of 555. One of the representatives are appointed by the Spaceyard, and another is appointed by the YCC, the other 3 being elected by the moon's residents. The legal courts operate under Yanrin's legal code, within Yanrin's legal system, with judges largely appointed by the parent planet. Locals elect the Governor of the satellite every five earth years.
It maintains a police force of 200, but has no military presence. It is nominally under the jurisdiction of the Yanrin's local defence force, but there are no permanent military bases or garrisons on Montraxas.
