Morid

Morid is a mostly empty region between Florathel and Zalanthium. While the region is mostly devoid of anything but a scattering of asteroids, these asteroids were the basis of an ancient civilization called the Moridian High Command which took advantage of the low gravity to spread across the entire region. Not much evidence has survived the ten million years between the MHC and today, but what does remain clues archeologists into a surprisingly advanced society for the time.

To this day, nomads continue to mimic the society of the MHC, although not intentionally. Morid has gathered many asteroids, comets, and dust once a part of other star systems. Left alone for billions of years, this dust may become a small arm in Cosmoria itself. Nomads gather what they need, whether volatile ices or nutrients for crops, before fleeing to another region. These mostly Norlin nomads never cooperate with xenologists, but those captured during military actions or by over-zealous researchers usually report the same reasoning for this behavior. They stay in small groups and attempt to be as invisible as possible lest another group destroys them. With resources so scarce in this region, various bands, clans, or hoards have grown mistrustful of one another. Remaining in one place for too long runs the risk of encountering a stronger group and, while they usually are peaceful encounters, risking a hostile encounter is far too dangerous.

The Moridian High Command had figured out a way to unify the various peoples of Morid, but how exactly it managed to break through this seemingly natural barrier is unknown. By studying existing nomads, xenologists have worked with archeologists to construct a more complete picture of this region's history. Since the Moridian High Command, however, there have been few nations willing to invest the great deal of resources it would take to keep this region under control. Scattered military bases from the UNF Navy represent the bulk of Morid's civilization, and even up to one percent of its population by the more conservative censuses.
