A Null Zone is a region of the Voidsea which the Broadwave is unable to influence. This, by extension, means that Taekni cannot be practiced within these regions, leaving these areas as parts of the Voidsea before the arrival of the Arcane.

Null Zones can vary in range, sometimes being no larger than a few Void Islands within a Void Archipelago, to dozens, or even hundreds of systems.

Null Zones do not forbid the evolution of Traits within a population, and Traits can still be used freely - This seems to suggest that the Broadwave is present within a Null Zone, but for some reason, isn't able to be utilized, or influence the region.

Frequency and Utilization

They are an intermittent phenomenon, occurring sporadically. They are relatively rare, making them both a massive hindrance, or an incredibly valuable resource, depending on where they are, who has discovered them, and the plans for the region.

For example, the Conquistadores' have turned the Geld Null Zone into a highly productive economic zone - This allows them to strategically counter the Sage Technocracy, whom rely heavily on Taekni and technology powered by it, making any attempted invasions far more difficult.

In some cases, Null Zones are used to mark borders between Spheres.
