Summery:
The Nuna (Homo Stellavarious) are a space faring species of parahuman native to the northern side of the M81 galaxy. Their society has existed for 200,000 years and they control around 4000 star systems in their part of the galaxy. Their civilization is called the Nuna Conglomerate and they have close relationships with many other species.
Appearance:
-modern nuna resemble homo sapiens superficially
-they all have dark skin but the tone varies slightly
-they all have purple eyes
-they wear gray/black uniforms with purple highlights
-they have extremely fast growing hair
-they have monolid eyes
-Nuna tend to be quite tall, some can even be over 2 metres but there is a lot of variation and short nuna still exist
Origin/History:
200,000 years ago there was a species of human called the Nol. They had red hair, “elf” ears, grey skin and blue-green eyes and lived on a planet called Walleen. They had a relatively advanced society but due to a super volcano eruption they had to leave the planet.
After they evacuated their planet they set in search for a new one however most of the habitable planets in the galactic north already had parahumans living on them so they decided to settle in space around a red dwarf star creating space habitats with functional biospheres for them to live in this worked very well for them, and they harvested energy from the red dwarf to fuel their civilization. They expanded their civilization to many star systems some of which had parahumans living on the planets but as the Nols lived in space in their habitats they were unintrusive to the parahumans living on planets.
However the Nol biology was not very well equipped to live in space due to a multitude of reasons, so the Nols gathered the genetic material of hundreds of parahuman species and created and created a new species called the Nuna (meaning “different/new but still the same inside” in the Nol language) to be their successors, they Nuna had a purple pigment in their eyes that made their eyes almost impervious to the normally damaging cosmic rays of space and the skin of the nuna was dark also to protect from from cosmic rays. The Nuna also resemble homo sapiens due to that being the most average appearance for parahumans and that's what mixing a whole bunch of parahuman species together would cause.
Eventually the Nuna got so advanced that they invented technologies like the quantum transporter which allowed them to teleport around to all their settlements around all the stars they colonized through quantum entanglement in the blink of an eye, they also invented a new kind of FTL (that was faster that the warp used by species like the Gondia and Vendalah) which involved speeding up the speed of light within a bubble around a spacecraft by manipulating mass instead of causing space to expand and contract with electromagnetism like the Gondia/Vendalah FTL system does.
With instant teleportation between their star systems the Nuna were able to expand to 4000 star systems in the galactic north. They also made alliances with different parahuman species uplifting them technologically, allowing them to work and live with the Nuna and trading with them and they protected all the parahumans in their territory from the Gondia, Vendalah and whatever other threats came along.
Biological facts
-all Nuna have bright purple eyes, this is due to a pigment in their eyes that protects them from the harmful rays of space
-all Nuna have dark skin this is because their skin needs protection when they are exposed to the rays of space during space walks
-the Nuna can live to be 400 years old
-The Nuna are on average more intelligent than homo sapiens
-the Nuna are capable of withstanding extremely high levels of radiation
-due to being hybrids of hundreds of parahuman species the Nuna are the most genetically diverse parahuman species in the galaxy and as such they are resistant to pandemics
-the Nuna can survive 5 minutes of exposure to the vacuum of space
-Nuna are able to hold their breath for 20 minutes
-unlike their homo sapien cousins parahumans still have the genes for whiskers merely turned off, and a side effect of the genetic manipulated nature of the Nuna means in rare cases the genes for whiskers can be spontaneously turned back on at any point in their lives and if this happens they will grow vibrissae and its commonly called whisker disease and the nuna find it very embarrassing and it can only be corrected with surgery
-the purple eyes of the nuna are a dominant gene so the offspring of a Nuna and another parahuman species will almost always have the purple eye pigment
-nuna hair grows extremely fast and to keep their hair short they need to cut it once every 2-3 days otherwise it can get very long
-due to being the product of genetic engineering rather than natural selection the Nuna are some of the most beautiful of the human species in the M81 Galaxy
Society:
The Nuna are a post-scarcity egalitarian society with a large focus on exploration and scientific advancement; they have 4000 star systems under their control and they are roughly a type 2 civilization. Individual Nuna can choose to pursue whatever interests they have and money no longer exists in their society but it is generally looked down upon for a Nuna to do nothing with their lives and if a nuna is not pursuing something with their lives it's assumed that there is some problem in their lives like mental illness.
The Nuna are capable of synthesizing food out of organic compounds but some nuna still choose to farm the conventional way as a hobby, the nuna are also able to visit (via use of quantum teleporter pads) the planets of parahuman civilizations that they have annexed into their empire. The Nuna also have a good relationship with the NeoGondia and a teleporter pad exists on Iris-III for the nuna to visit.
The Nuna’s investment in scientific discovery and exploration has also driven them to look into the possibility of exploring other galaxies but they are waiting until they have perfected pad-less quantum teleporter drives so they can teleport their ships to other galaxies rather than traveling for hundreds of years via normal FTL.
The Nuna however intrusively annex other parahuman societies into their empire as they believe that doing this is ultimately in the other parahuman species’ best interest however this often leads to the degradation and even loss of the parahuman species’ culture and way of life as their culture is replaced by Nuna-type society. Additionally in nuna society uplifted parahuman species are often seen as lesser than nuna, they aren’t denied rights and they are equal under the law but they are often treated as lesser on an interpersonal/academic level and are often seen as less evolved.
The Nuna also know that there must be a planet out there where the ancestors of all parahumans came from, they do not know where this planet is or what it is like but they have given the theoretical world the name “Yumira” and they often look for this planet among the stars of the Galaxy.
Nuna scientific advancements
The nuna have invented and discovered such things as:
Quantum Teleporters: teleportation pads capable of transporting objects theoretically an infinite distance in the blink of an eye through a process of quantum entanglement however there needs to be a quantum teleporter at the other end to teleport too (however this limitation is being worked on and once its overcome the nuna will be able to travel anywhere in the whole universe instantly and will make FTL drives completely obsolete)
Nuna FTL: unlike the FTL of other species the Nuna FTL systems involve creating a bubble of altered physics around a spacecraft in which light travels much faster, this increases the max speed of the universe inside and allows the Nuna ship to travel up to 10 light years per day (while other species have only gotten up to 3 light years per day), when inside this bubble time also goes faster due to a reverse time dilation effect (created by increasing the speed of light) for this reason the nuna ship needs to accelerate to near the new the new speed of light to create a time dilation effect to counteract the reverse time dilation and bring the ships time back into sync with time outside of the bubble
Theron Disruptors: a kind of particle beam weapon capable of stunning, killing or even disintegrating a target (this technology has been stolen and duplicated by many species including the Gondia)
Entangled communication: a form of FTL communication that uses quantum entangled particles called Sophons, it is instantaneous and completely secure (while subspace comms are not instantaneous or secure) (this technology was also stolen by the Gondia)
Quantum computers: The Nuna have perfected Quantum computing and Quantum computers have completely replaced conventional step by step computers in their civilization
Stasis fields: similar to the technology the Nuna use for FTL the nuna can also create fields that slow down the speed of light slowing down time inside the bubble this can be used to preserve anything forever if needed, because the speed of light can be slowed down to zero completely stopping time, or status fields can also be put into reverse to speed up time inside the field so years inside the field can be seconds outside the field
Nuna Cultural quirks:
-Gender is not really a thing in Nuna society, they see sex similar to how we see hair color or eye color as just an arbitrary morphological trait that doesn't have any real social roles associated with it
-while they dont have gender they have other social constructs such as animal-type in which people are grouped into groups based on what kind of animal their personality is like there are many accepted animals and each animal-type has certain social norms and ways of dress and behavior, this evolved from ancient beliefs about people having animal spirits that guide them, also people who have an animal type that's a predator are higher on the social hierarchy than people whose animal type is a prey animal, and people who are prey animals are expected to submit to those who are predators
-nuna language sounds similar to ancient greek however its sentence structure is more like chinese and the Nuna accent sounds australian and their writing system looks like ancient egyptian
-the Nuna also have a superiority complex over other parahuman species and see themselves as the benevolent saviors of the species they annex into their empire
-since the Nuna live on space stations they don’t have day/night cycles and because of this they don’t have a concept of day or night, they know that on planets sometimes there is light and sometimes it's dark due to which side is facing the system’s star but they don’t really think of this the way we do and they usually sleep for 2 hours between blocks of 4 hour activity (they would be awake for 4 hours, go to sleep for 2, then get up again for 4 hours)
-bisexuality is considered the norm in Nuna society as they dont have the social categorisation of gender, however hetrosexuality/homosexuality does exist but its seen the same way we would think of someone being attracted to arbitrary features (like a man who like blondes, or a woman liking chubby men, etc), additionally monogamy is seen as odd and polyamory is the social norm
-The Nuna dont have the nuclear family and instead raise their children collectively, nuna society is organized into “clans” which live in individual sectors of large space stations and children of the “clan” are raised by the whole “clan” instead of just the people who made them
-Nuna society however can often be transphobic this is because they do not have a social concept of gender so they often see someone wanting to change their sex as vain and unnecessary and some Nuna families often ban their members from doing this, and this has driven many Nuna trans women into the arms of the Gondia, and before the NeoGondia existed the only faction of Gondia were the cult of tera so Nuna trans women defecting to their side were an enormous security risk, and this is how the Gondia got their hands on a lot of Nuna knowledge, this however has gotten better as of late due to advocacy from several annexed species who have a long history of trans people and the Nuna are starting to accept that some people need to change their sex to be themselves
Some of the species uplifted by the Nuna include:
the Borians:
a neanderthal-like parahuman species from a planet where the equator is the only habitable area, the rest of the planet being covered in ice, the borians previously had a very conservative culture and are often derogatorily called “flatheads” by the nuna as well as other parahuman species
The Pakune:
a herbivorous monkey-like parahuman species with a hedonistic lifestyle similar to bonobos, their scientific name is Homo Mandrillimimus, they are from a planet with vast jungles and swamps and a climate similar to earth’s carboniferous period
The Jarans (pronounced Yaran):
a human-like parahuman species with light skin, green/blue eyes, and blond/red hair who were in a medieval state of development before the Nuna arrived, they come from the planet Jaris which is a planet very close to pleistocene earth
The Chadians:
a species of 3m tall muscular parahumans who originated from a planet dominated by giant reptiles, they have gray skin protruding canines and primarily eat meat and are able to crush bone in their jaws
The Placidans:
a spindly tall species of Theral approximately 2 meters tall when they rear up originating from a low gravity moon orbiting a gas giant around a red dwarf star, they have white fur, red eyes and are omnivores. The Placidans are unable to tolerate higher gravity worlds so they usually either live on their moon or in Nuna space stations with the artificial gravity turned down
The Mermoids:
a species of parahuman that after the land became uninhabitable used genetic engineering to adapt thier bodies to life in the ocean, their legs have been fused into a tail and they are covered in slimly skin that needs to be kept wet like an amphibian, they have gills, large eyes and they eat fish, crustaceans, molluscs and kelp.
The Naloi:
The Naloi (meaning the same and forever in the nuna language) are a terrorist organization operated by Nuna that are against the inclusion of other species into the conglomerate. They operate on the edges of Nuna space and carry out terrorist attacks on the Conglomerate in hopes that the Nuna will be forced to accommodate their demands these demands include:
-the total removal of Non-Nuna species from society
-the confiscation of Nuna technology from all non-nuna species
-the deaths of all hybrids of nuna and other parahuman species
This movement came after the conglomerate learnt that different parahuman species could interbreed and have viable offspring, this happened when the Nuna annexed the Jaran homeworld of Jaris and inter-species couples started to form (today half nuna hybrids are common in the conglomerate). The Naloi saw this as a threat to the future of the Nuna and feared a form of extinction via assimilation and feared that “pure” Nuna would no longer exist in the future. They got support from some higher ups which allowed them to steal a sizable number of ships, enough to create their own fleet which they used for their terrorist activities.
Additionally its quite common for Naloi to have some non-nuna ancestry and not know it, this has been demonstrated many times.
