Overview
Paome is a B-type star in the Mid Arm of the Ambrosia Galaxy, only 276 light years from Haven, and as a result it is visible to the naked eye from the planet. Its stellar spectrum shows unexplained emission and absorption lines (likely ones of exotic matter), which could be signs of energy-based life. Other than that it is very young, frequently throwing off powerful flares.
When astronomers first spotted the strange signals in 11244 CE, they were completely bewildered. No phenomena known at the time could replicate the observed signals other than exotic life, based on strings and magnetic monopoles.
Exotic life
The life was later examined and these details were uncovered:
- The lifetime of these “organisms” is just a few nanoseconds
- They don’t have a lot of time to exist and reproduce asexually via mitosis basically the instant they’re born, and so a mass acts similarly to a giant mass of foam.
- Their waste product is a special kind of exotic matter that is one of only two known types observed to have negative mass but with some properties that do not violate the laws of physics. The exotic matter also shows up in the stellar spectrum of this star, surprisingly, as if it was an ionised element.
This waste material is mostly produced in the core, but does show up on the surface star in extremely small quantities, and is carried off by the solar wind sometimes. This makes this "Aqua Inversa" able to be mined, and it is certainly useful.
