Notable Events
  • Discovery of ancient ruins on its surface during 2846 expedition
  • Observed disappearances and reappearances during planetary alignments

The Phantom Moon is an object that seems to appear and disappear in random planetary or solar gravity wells on its own whims. Recorded locations include:

  • Around Sol
  • Mercury
  • Venus
  • Mars
  • Saturn
  • Haumea
  • Alpha Centauri A
  • Alpha Centauri B
  • Proxima Centauri
  • Tretekka
  • Yorrona
  • Terra Nova

It seems to spend no less than three months and no more than two years at every world it visits.

Gravity also appears to change in proximity to the Phantom Moon, with Fg=Gm1m2/r^2 becoming Fg=Gm1m2/r^3. This causes gravity to fall off a lot quicker, making orbits around the Phantom Moon very difficult.

An expedition to the Phantom Moon was launched on the 16th of March, 2846. When the ship had arrived, the Phantom Moon appeared to have the ruins of a massive civilisation dotted around the surface.

This civilization, judging by its tech, would seem to be around 2 million years old and a late Type 2.

It has been observed to disappear and reappear under certain conditions, like on the day of any planetary alignment. It has been observed to disappear and reappear at one of two locations:

Terra Nova (Outside Selene's orbit)

or Alpha Centauri (As a freefloating object).
