Description
A Quark Matter Energy Unit (QMEU for short) is a machine that uses atoms down to the quark level. This is what gives it very fast speeds, and the name.
The average QMEU holds about 1,279 brontobytes of data, packed with 125 1,500 core processors, and runs at 1.926 PetaHz. It weighs roughly 15 lbs, though bigger models can weigh about 750. These bigger ones go on Battleships and above.
Invention
The QMEU Was invented in 2505 CE byJorn Sash. It uses tiny quantum computers that can move electrons and waves at FTL speeds. This allowed for instant communication between Lokira and other worlds.
The QMEU also acted like a semi-sentient path finder. The machine would find the fastest, and safest way to a location. Failures of FTL jumps went down from 5.092% to 0.00281%.
A few months after its use in the public, Jorn had won 3 technological awards in the feilds of Quantum Computing, Electron Science, and FTL Engineering.
Timeline
2487 CE: Testing with small quantum computers is done by Jorn and a few lab-mates.
2491 CE: Jorn successfully tests FTL electron movement
2493 CE: Jorn and a dozen lab-mates successfully build the smallest quantum computer on record. 1.5x2.1 mm.
2495 CE: The lab successfully test FTL waves.
2497 CE: The lab successfully fit 1000 quantum computers inside a QMEU Canister.
2499 CE: QMEU Prototype is completed, and tested. Test results successful.
2503 CE: QMEU v1 heavily malfunctions, resulting in two years worth of more work.
2505 CE: QMEU v1 is complete, public use occurs a few weeks later.
