The Raincaster Dragon is a large species of wyvernid dragon endemic to the northern rainforests of Moshkho and Weepria. The Raincaster gets its name from the velcro-like scales on the backs of their wings which collect atmospheric moisture and forms large puddles on there. Then when the dragon takes flight droplets will be flung off the sides, in quantities that could be mistaken for rain.

Description

Raincasters are among the largest extant dragon species on Earth. Reaching lengths of 26 feet, heights of 10.5 feet, wingspans of 48 feet and weights of 750+ lbs,

They range in coloration, and are able to be various shades of brown, tan, ochre, beige and gold.

Ecology

Raincaster Dragons are carnivores, though despite their size, they are specialized in capturing and eating small prey like rodents, birds, small dragons and fish

Their size helps protect Raincasters from most predators in their habitat. However Bruineens, Regal Drakes, and Necrorexes, will readily take on a Raincaster that is on the ground.

To protect themselves from these predators, Raincasters are able to spit large quantities of a highly corrosive, acidic substance which is capable of melting flesh within seconds. However Raincasters are not immune to the corrosive effects of this acid and only use the ability as a last resort, and even then it may take them a while to judge how and where to use it. This hesitation often leads to the Raincaster's downfall.

Conservation

Raincaster Dragons are an endangered species as habitat destruction and poaching have caused their populations to decline dramatically, with over 70% of the population being wiped out since the 1960s.

Trivia

  • Raincaster DNA was used by the Progenitors to make a Dragonborne Varient, a notable example being Shrike Starcaster
