the rim is a sentient ever expanding planet which all the beings in the multiverse go when they die. the rim itself torture the beings along with his so called servants which are horrendous creatures from simple goblin like entities to world eaters who can eat earth with a single bite. the rim was a Boltzmann brain like the imaginator however he got eaten by him and he is constantly being consumed by the imaginator which is the reason why he tortures people
