Saurornitholestes are a species of sapient, dromaeosaur dinosaurs native to the planet Earth. This species was one of the three dominant sapient races on Earth 66 million years ago, alongside Troodon and Dakotaraptor. All but two Saurornitholestes individuals survived the K-pg extinction event. As of the present day, only four individual Saurornitholestes are known to be alive; those four being Zet Langston, Theira Langston, Lee Langston, Holloway Langston, and Kirby Langston.
History
Saurornitholestes began their civilizations living in tribes lead by a matriarch. Saurornitholestes also lived alongside the fellow sapient species Dakotaraptor, and later Troodon. While initial interactions were cautious, they eventually began trading. When the Acheroraptors invaded North America, many Saurornitholestes were subjugated by them, while others fled south. Millions of Saurornitholestes participated in the War of Laramidian Liberation, succesfully expelling the Acheroraptors from North America, and formed the United Triumvirate of Laramidia.
Culture
Saurornitholestes spent most of their history living in female-dominated tribes. Saurornitholestes value virtues such as loyalty, hospitality, and compassion. Female Saurornitholestes typically make the first move when courting a male, and the males often raised the young. This changed somewhat after the Maniraptoran unification, though many Saurornitholestes households still have the matriarch as the primary provider.
The Saurornitholestes, like the Dakotaraptors and Troodons, followed a religion where they worshipped a deity that resembled a double-headed, winged deity known simply as 'the Raptoran'. This religion pushed ideas like nature's preservation, social openness and acceptance, logic and reason, strategy, equality, and hard work. Their religious texts also held stories telling of/foretelling the 'Four Trials'. These four trials were:
- The Trial of Survival - which focused on if the three species could survive the primitive ages of civilization and successfully begin to advance.
- The Trial of Exploration - which focused on if the Maniraptorans could begin to expand their civilizations to continue to prosper.
- The Trial of War - which focused on if the three species could unite as one against a greater common foe.
- The Trial of Cataclysm - which focused on if the Maniraptorans could live on past a world-shattering cataclysm and truly prosper.
Appearance and Biology
Saurornitholestes follow the typical therapod body type. Like all Maniraptoran dinosaurs, they possessed a thick coat of feathers covering their bodies. The feathers of Saurornitholestes didn't differ between males and females, with both possessing a wide range of colors, such as orange, red, yellow, white, black, and brown. Male Saurornitholestes possess large plumage crests on their heads.
Natural Abilities
- Enhanced speed and agility
- Sharp teeth and claws
- Enhanced sense of sight, hearing, and smell.
Type of Government
Saurornitholestes historically lived in matriarch-run tribes. After Maniraptoran unification they became governed by a technocracy.
