Scope: Alternis
Overview
Project Alternis is a large-scale alternate history project created by User:The Minmus Derp branching from the Prime timeline ~4.5 billion years ago when the solar system formed vastly differently. Originating as my homework in late 2019, this scope exists as a focused and grounded sci-fi setting set solely within the alternate Sol System.
How to Collaborate
Alternis is closed for collaboration at present, as it still needs fundamental setting articles written about it. Once the groundwork is laid out, it will open to a limited collaboration, with constant communication required due to the tight-knit lore plans and small scale of the setting. If you come up with a concept, please tell the creator and it may be worked into the complete lore as things are ported and written. Small-scale events or things happening away from the inner solar system are much easier to add at your leisure, but please check with the creator regardless.
Setting
The Alternis Scope takes place within the Alternis Solar System ONLY. None of the setting happens beyond the orbit of Boreas, and the vast majority of it takes place within the inner solar system around Earth, Theia, Venus, Mars, and Savis.
Timeline
The current year of Alternis is 441 AFO (After First Orbit, the in-universe calendar based upon the first orbital launch), and does not go beyond this date. Historical events have no rigid backwards limit, but please be sensible and don't have 100,000 year old ancient civilizations or the like.
Inhabitants
Alternis is solely inhabited by the Humans and Loriset species, hailing from Earth and Theia respectively. No sapient alien life exists within the setting beyond this. However, nonsapient ecosystems do exist on worlds like Titan and Eurybia as well as subglacial oceans on the Savisian moons. Due to the hard-sci-fi theme of the setting, much of the Human and Loriset population has been genetically altered to suit their new environments, splitting them into clearly delineated subspecies.
Technology
High-technology does not generally exist within the setting. Think Battlestar Galactica sans jump drives or The Expanse sans protomolecule for the general tech level. Superluminal travel does not exist, and space combat involves kinetic weaponry and armor plating rather than shield technology that doesn't exist.
Interaction with Other Scopes
No interactions with other scopes are currently planned, and I doubt that anyone else has a scope existing at a scale that can meaningfully interact with this one. If you have a good idea give the creator a shout, though.
