"ACROSS SPACE & TIME TOWARDS DISTANT WORLDS"

Proofreading by: ASmallerMolecule

The author of Distant Worlds, mMONTAGEe, is undergoing mandatory military service. This absence has resulted in ASmallerMolecule and TheStellarExplorer maintaining this scope, though it will remain dormant. Please wish Montage the best of luck!

Distant Worlds is a genre-less worldbuilding project that began in late 2019 under the direction of mMONTAGEe. The universe of Distant Worlds primarily unfolds between the 24th and 26th centuries, a speculative vision of humanity's future among the stars where scientific theory becomes the cornerstone of reality.

At its heart, Distant Worlds is a dynamic, evolving universe—a vast setting built from the bones of advanced physics, speculative technologies, and bold philosophical inquiry. Its central narrative is delivered through a collection of novellas that chronicle the journey of a star-born child and their crew of loyal companions. Chosen by fate—or perhaps by the cosmos itself—they are entrusted with ancient knowledge once guarded by a forgotten civilization that once watched over the Milky Way. Their mission: to enlighten humanity and unlock the divine mysteries embedded in the fabric of existence.

The Distant Worlds expedition marks a turning point in human history—a future mythos where curiosity becomes the ultimate engine of discovery, pushing the boundaries of science, society, and soul. The stories probe deeply into the most profound question: What is the universe?

Yet Distant Worlds is more than a single story. It is a multilayered exploration of civilizations, spanning a breadth of topics as wide as space itself—from cuisine to commercial brands, from cyberwarfare to malware documentation, from the rise of star-faring civilizations to the destruction and rebirth of entire worlds.

The original vision of Distant Worlds was to manifest the hypothetical and theoretical into lived reality. Concepts such as Anti-de Sitter space, Causal Dynamical Triangulation, and M-theory were not just inspirations—they were blueprints for world design.

Over time, the project naturally evolved, embracing a broader array of subjects which interconnected together to deepen and enrich the experience of Distant Worlds.

Collaboration

Distant Worlds is currently in a semi-open state, meaning that all suggestions must be approved by mMONTAGEe before they can be incorporated into the universe. This approach helps preserve internal consistency across the setting. Any proposed changes must not contradict or alter content already established in the novellas set in the 24th century.

While Distant Worlds strives for realism and scientific accuracy where possible, it is not strictly bound by those limits. The Rule of Cool always applies.

Interaction with other scopes

The universe of Distant Worlds takes place in the same continuity as Vela, a far-future story. Scopes crossreference each other within articles and the novella
