Mutation Protocol is an analog horror collaboration project and series created on December 18th, 2024 it is set in an alternate 1980s focusing on a post-apocalyptic Earth. It's based on science fiction, body horror, and speculative evolution using things mainly like art and narrative writing. It explores themes of human desperation, evolution, and survival against a backdrop of global scientific experimentation gone wrong. The project wants world-building and collaboration to expand the lore of a shared dark universe.

Overview:
The Mutation Protocol Series is set in an alternate 1980s, where decades of war, industrial pollution, and dwindling resources have driven the world to the brink of collapse. In a desperate bid to save humanity, global powers initiated the Mutation Protocol, a series of advanced genetic experiments that harness controlled bursts of high-energy cosmic radiation (Darwin Radiation) combined with state-of-the-art gene-editing techniques (similar to CRISPR) to trigger adaptive mutations in humans, plants, and animals. The goal was to activate latent genetic pathways and epigenetic switches, ideally conferring enhanced DNA repair, radiation resistance, and metabolic efficiency to help organisms survive a rapidly deteriorating environment. Instead, the protocol destabilized genomic integrity, causing widespread mutations and precipitating the Post-Protocol Collapse, which reduced the global population from 3 billion to 2.5 billion and left many nations in disarray. While remnants of government authority persist, wealthier nations preserving remnants of high-tech infrastructure, the poorer regions are ravaged by food shortages and lawlessness. Covert operations and clandestine black-market research continue to refine or replicate these experiments, even as some governments conceal their involvement. In this new order, Mutants are isolated cases of accidental genetic alteration, whereas Mutant Species refer to entire populations that have fully adapted to the new environmental conditions. The lingering effects of the Mutation Protocol ripple through underground industries and struggling economies, forcing humanity to navigate a precarious existence between the remnants of the old world and the biological horrors unleashed by their own desperate experiments.
