Overview

By User:The Minmus Derp, Trolligi, and many others, this scope is an epic-scale grounded sci-fi universe spread across the vastness of the Silky Way galaxy and its satellites. It has room for most genres and any style of writing, from lore entries to great tales of historical figures. There exists a great collage of heroes, villains, and powerful nations in the stars, clashing through time. This scope is extremely old, originating with Minmus' age-five ramblings about an ideal solar system, but only recently joined the Amaranth Legacy community. It is currently undergoing a large-scale reboot to bring old content up to the standards of the current writers, with 152 pages currently on site. While there is a unified plotline that takes place across much of this scope, it is not required to associate new content with it. If you have any questions, contact us on the discord.

How to Collaborate

The Silky Way is completely OPEN for collaboration, and currently there are no rigid rules beyond avoidance of contradicting established lore (unless agreed upon) and violating the broad scale of the setting. The lead of this scope is User:The Minmus Derp, and any questions should be directed to her. If you should like to contribute, it is highly encouraged, as collaboration makes worldbuilding more fun! If new content does not fit with the theme and lore of the Silky Way, you will be informed, but this is unlikely to happen and will probably be easily fixable if it does.

Setting

As previously mentioned, the setting of the Silky Way exists primarily within the galaxy that gave the scope its name, the Silky Way ring galaxy. This means that the scope encompasses a wide variety of environments, from the lush worlds of the Vernarca Nebula to the graveyards of the Galactic Core, resource-poor stars of Asharbyel, and uncharted wilds of the Astros Sector. A core theme of the Silky Way's broad lore is that the universe utterly dwarfs the civilizations within it even if they may tame their little area of space, and we believe that keeping a single primary galaxy emphasizes this further.

The scale of the setting is such that single star systems can have large effects on their surroundings, with the vast majority of nations being under 500 stars in size or so. Anything of the size found in the Borealis Universe would function practically as a force of nature, as the Void does, and so generally do not exist in recorded history.

Faraway galaxies, like Filarsa, do exist in the setting, but are merely non-interactive observational states as seen by the inhabitants of the Silky Way. These far realms are a backdrop for speculation, scientific interest, and occasional narrative flavor, but do not play a role in any storylines within the setting. There exists one satellite outside of this observational state, Asharbyel, due to its unique environment not found within the Silky Way, and any further such cases must be agreed upon with the project leads.

In order to prevent the Silky Way becoming yet another generic sci-fi universe populated by regular people but with face paint and head prosthetics, completely humanoid species should be avoided. If you need help with design, ask for it, but falling back on this most generic of tropes is nothing if not needlessly lazy. This rule forces us as the creators to be more creative, and the universe is far too wild and amazing a place for something this mundane to be the norm.

The current year in the setting in 150 AC. If you make a calendar for your section of lore, please specify its relation to the Federation Standard Calendar for ease of reader comprehension.

Subdivisions

The Silky Way is a uniquely granular setting. It is subdivided into a collection of settings, each of which generally represents a single Seed Cluster (see the Lexica). Examples of settings within the Silky Way include Asharbyel, the Vernarca Nebula, and the Apple Nebula. Any collaborator can create a seed cluster and therefore a setting if they so desire, but it is encouraged to have a plan for how to fill out this setting with the requisite lore and characters. As mentioned earlier, Asharbyel is currently the lone example of an extragalactic setting, and it is unlikely that more will be approved without extenuating circumstances.

Interaction with Other Scopes

The Silky Way currently does not interact with any other Scopes, nor do any plans for it to cross over exist. The difference in scale between it and most sci-fi settings is too great, unfortunately. If you come up with something, then contact the creator and we can talk.

• Vernarcan Federation – Minmus' primary nation, which has a hand in a great number of major events including those caused by the voyage of the Kareland; and the fall of the Void, an existential threat to the entire Silky Way; as well as a number of other events within the Vernarca Nebula seed cluster.

• Yazera Pact – The military alliance of most states within the Ervo Sector's Vernarca Nebula. Its membership has varied over its history, but it was key to several events within the Ervo Sector as well as the War of the Broken Bow.
• Alliance of Five – The Yazera Pact, but its in the Hinthorn Sector and everyone was vaguely fascist until recently. They went from being enemies of the Yazera Pact nations to staunch allies against the Void over the course of the War of the Broken Bow.
• War of the Broken Bow – The War of the Broken Bow was the greatest war in the entire history of both the Ervo and Hinthorn sectors, and from a reading standpoint serves as the capstone of the entire timeline. Beginning as a larger-than-normal slapfight between various interstellar powers over silly reasons, it quickly turned into a fight for survival against the Void, the largest and most destructive "civilization" in the galaxy.

• The Silky Way descends from the earliest lore ever created by Minmus, as well as other pieces of old lore taken from other projects. The most notable examples of the latter are the Spider Nebula and Pathos Cluster.
