Simulations (Vela)

Simulations are near-perfect digital reconstructions of the universe created by Vela in hopes of understanding her being. Their original purpose, as ascertained by her builders, be it housing a civilization or researching reality's mysteries, is lost to time. They operate and are stored in the Conflux of Vela, surrounding the core that hosts her digital consciousness.

An untold number of simulations have been generated, each characterized by a procedural 'seed' applied to the initial creation protocol, running on a neverending cycle. Any particular cycle of a simulation is called an iteration. In theory, each is supposed to be absolutely identical to the last, but Vela's gradual deterioration has resulted in minuscule differences across iterations.

Architecture

Simulations have several underlying subsystems that manage distinct aspects of reality.

  • Aetheric matrix - directs the behavior of visible light and electromagnetic particles.
  • Conceptual framework - the collective perceptibility of reality.

Operation

Cosmic Cycle

In nearly every iteration, the creation protocol generates a continuously expanding reality that, over the span of trillions of years, is populated by countless galaxies, stars, and planets. As the reality expands, the galaxies begin to drift beyond their respective cosmological horizons, the birth of stars ceases entirely, and only black holes linger in the void.

In time, any available energy is going to be evenly distributed and the concept of entropy is rendered meaningless. Once that threshold is reached, the simulation is instantaneously collapsed into a singularity that continues the cycle.

List of Simulations

Once an ordinary simulation, a critical malfunction rendered the the preceding iterations of Asleth indistinguishable. As a result, multiple instances of Asleth began running simultaneously, and the central timeline shattered. Natural constant began to erode, the underlying conceptual framework destabilized, and several instances only retained loose regions of stability.
Largely unaffected by the Fault, Astralis remains a stable simulation with only minimal deviations. The sole anomaly is an 'overflow' of the aetheric matrix, resulting in unusual electromagnetic behavior that can be harnessed to develop novel technologies by its native civilizations.
A generation error in Emyth's past led to the erasure of over ninety-nine percent of reality, leaving only sparse galactic clusters. The enveloping void is unable to sustain any matter for a prolonged period of time, rendering the people born in these distant galaxies hopelessly stranded.
The deteriorating state of Vela has led to various simulations that defy the rules, notably Palioxis. Located in the epicenter of the Fault, it is a fractured reality made up of vast bubbles of stable space, each housing hundreds of thousands of stars, separated by a void that fluctuates on the fine line between existence and non-existence. In that chaotic state, the constraints of reality have began to lose their grip.
