Slimsnout Lagine is an Acheroraptor who cryofroze herself, allowing for her survival into the Holocene era. She serves as a primary antagonist in the Guardians of Earth plot, and a secondary antagonist in the Golden Age of Heroism plot.
History
Early Life and Career in Laramidia
Lagine hatched approximately 34 years before the K-pg extinction event in what is now south-eastern Saskatchewan. Being hatched into a family of scientists, Lagine was trained to be a scientist from a young age. However, it eventually became apparent that Lagine's twin brother, Shri, was the more skilled of the two siblings, leading her parents to favor him over her. Shri was on track to being sent to the national academy for the science institute, however he ended up running away with a secret lover before he could. Ashamed and heartbroken, Lagine's parents sent her in his place, where she surprised everyone with her efficiency, ambition, and knowledge of genetic and biological engineering. This eventually paid off, with Lagine earning herself a position in the Laramidian Science Institute, which she quickly rose through the ranks of. At some point during this period, Lagine married a childhood friend-turned-girlfriend. After the death of the previous Scientific Institute Executive, the institute's directive branch appointed her as the new Institute Executive. Under Lagine's leadership, the institution expanded it's space and genetics programs. Lagine took a liking to Antonio Umbra and his sister Penny shortly after their admission into the institute, and took it upon herself to mentor them. During her tenure as Executive, Lagine became known for her less-than ethical experiments, which created a rift between her and a few other members of the institute. This rift worsened during the Asteroid Crisis when Lagine went into a permanently mind-altering psychosis.
K-pg Extinction Event and Cryo-Freeze
In the weeks leading up to the date of impact, Lagine started hoarding lab equipment and genetic material into a large cryopod that she had hidden underground. On the day of impact, Lagine froze herself and all her stashed equipment away in the cryopod. About 66,000,000 years later following an Earthquake, Lagine's cryopod became exposed to the open caverns of Dante's Pit. Soon enough, a curious group of Ghouls found her cryopod and opened it, releasing Lagine in the year 1870.
The Abyssal Contingency
Once freed, Lagine began construction on a new project dubbed the Abyssal Contingency. This entailed her creating, synthesizing, and mass-cloning two new sapient species; the Didelph, and the Avis. The Didelph are Opossum-like mammals primarily made up of the dna of the marsupial didelphodon, whereas the Avis are toothed birds primarily made up of Avisaurus dna. Lagine used her new creations to construct herself a massive facility within the hollow earth, which became the new headquarters where Lagine carried out her experiments.
Experimentation On Superheroes
Lagine quickly became obsessed with the idea of living as long as possible, through augmentation; both genetic and cybernetic. Upon Lagine discovering the existence of super-powered individuals among the human race, she became determined to study components of their biology for the purpose of her scientific research and obsession. In 1886, Lagine carried out her first successful abduction of a superhero; an Englishman named Wilbur Maunder. Maunder soon became one of the first of many superheroes to meet a cruel and gory fate on Dr. Lagine's cutting room floor. Lagine went on to use the organs, DNA, and blood of her victims in various experiments regarding the biotics of super-powers.
Golden Age of Heroism
During the Golden Age of Heroism, Lagine continued her abductions and experimentations, though notably on a larger scale. During the lead up to the second world war in the late 1930s, Lagine found herself establishing an uneasy partnership with Axis authorities. This partnership was founded less under the pretext of Lagine believing in their cause, but rather the fact that the Axis governments were more open to the agendas of Dr. Lagine, as well as her methods to go about achieving them.
World War Two
During World War Two, Lagine partnered with the governments of the three main axis powers; Germany, Italy, and Japan. Lagine assisted the three nations in their creation of super soldiers, in return for them sharing all their findings with her, and providing her with material aid as well as captured superhumans from conquered territories; mainly the Soviet Union and China. As the tide of the war changed drastically in the allies' favor, Lagine began preparing for the likely outcome of an axis defeat. She began destroying files that had any mention of her, and began to gradually move her operations back underground. In early 1945, as the Soviets and Western allies converged on Germany, Lagine, who was near the ever-approaching American lines, decided it was time for her to retreat back underground. While in the process of doing so, Lagine was attacked by American Superhero "Green Thunderbolt", aka Scottie Reuter. Lagine suffered numerous electrical burns during the encounter, only managing to escape when her underlings threw themselves at Reuter in a nearly suicidal attack. Lagine was then transported back underground.
Cybernetics and Post-War
After being rushed back into the Hollow Earth, Lagine underwent extensive cybernetic augmentations to her legs, and the left side of her face, which were badly burnt by Green Thunderbolt. For decades after world war two, Lagine kept herself hidden deep in the Hollow Earth while she continued her experiments and projects, managing to build herself a substantial army of bioengineered and cybernetically augmented soldiers. During the 2015 K'keeri invasion, Lagine prepared for the possibility of a war of annihilation with the K'keeri, should they discover her. However, the K'keeri were stopped by Theid Theron and the Guardians of Earth first. Following this event, and the reemergence of Superheroes globally, Lagine began to prepare for the resumption of her superhero experimentation, however now with a new plan of action to achieve an ultimate goal; to achieve immortality through biotechnical perfection, and establish a new world order over all of earth. A new world order where the gap between biotechnology biology was bridged, and Lagine eternally would reign supreme.
Personality
Slimsnout Lagine is a spiteful and cynical individual, known to have an eccentric personality. Lagine cared little about ethics, as she believes they hold back progress. Lagine tends to mostly lookout for herself, however she has formed friendships with various colleagues over the course of her very long life. Lagine is very blunt, and will say what she's thinking regardless of social norms. Lagine holds the view that biology itself is inherently flawed, because it has not yet managed to evolve past what is considered to be inevitable to every living thing; death. This is what drives her to attempt to fix that 'flaw' herself by working to make biology and biotechnology insepperable from one another. Lagine, as a result, does her work with strong resolve because it means something to her. Lagine's long tenure on Earth has caused noticeable negative effects on her psyche, the root of which being the neglect and bullying Lagine faced as a child, as well as the detrimental psychosis she experienced during the meteor crisis.
