History

The history of Echatios delves back through many, many ages. Written history having only occured back until roughly 2100 BCE. The oldest structure on Echatios, on the otherhand, nears 20.000 years of age.

The caves of Suena

This set of cavernous structures located deep in the Suena mountain range, is assumed to have been a settlement of ancient Sarrites. It expands to a radius of nearly 300 meters (~984 ft) and contains within it numerous rooms of various purposes. Some rooms have been found with sealed jars of wine, whilst others have shown countless amounts of clay and pottery, leading to the assumption that this was an active living location for a group of ancient Sarrites.

Almost the entirety of the area the caves are located in, is made out tuff, a relatively weak material that's decently easy to carve through, allowing for this group of Sarrites to cut their home into the ground.

This type of home was most likely utilised for various purposes, such as effort free insulation, easy expansion and not being as visible. There were also large, round boulders discovered, most likely used as doors, presumably to make it more difficult for people outside of the settlement to enter.

The caves date back to about 17.500 BCE, right near the beginning of the Thermocene, a 21.300 year long (and counting) period of time of extended cooling.

Mareaze Obelisks

The Mareaze Obelisks are large stone structures, roughly 4m² at the base, 1m² at the top, and with a height of 9.5 meters on average. The tallest having broken in half and being roughly 12 meters, whilst the shortest is closer to 7.6 meters in height. Several of the obelisk can be found throughout Echatios, with the most being located in the South-Skoran plains, this also being the location where most of them are from.

Their use is yet unknown, with many speculations. Some think they were part of worship, whilst others assume they could've been a predecessor to the modern day "Border stones", though this wouldn't explain why they all came from the same place. The most popular theory in the historic community seems to be that the obelisks signal the innate Sarrite desire to know more about the world around them, especially everything from outer space. In this theory the obelisks would have written on them about Neth and various other stars of the Silky Way, with some even theorising that the locations of the obelisks match perfectly to the X constellation.

They feature a variety of carvings on them, written in a yet to be decoded language. Though, this language only seems to share minor, if any, similarities with known ancient languages in the area.
