Overview

The Syltphaan System is a moderately large star and star system located in the Far-West Systems of Ambrosia's Realm of Resonance, near the "center" of this region. Its parent star, a large Annatar (White Sun star), is orbited by six planets, which in turn are orbited by five major moons, along with smaller sub-planetary bodies such as comets and asteroids. Most notably, Syltphaan is home to the Ophonoti's Forever-Abound Technological Demarchy (often shortened to the Ophonoti Demarchy), the governing body of the Ophonoti species and its constitution races. The Ophonoti themselves served as one of the three original founding member races of the Ambrosia Alliance of United Systems (AAUS).

As such, the Syltphaan System is one of the most developed and populous star systems within Ambrosia Alliance space, making it one of the most populous systems in the Far-West Systems. Given this, along with its central location, it is no surprise that the Syltphaan System is amongst the most important systems in the region. Many nations in the area wish to gain control over it to ensure their operations in the Far-West Systems can achieve maximum efficacy.

Its planets express a very diverse range of biome types, and out of these, two of its bodies contain native-born life; the ocean planet of Niquella, and its major moon of Dytekta, both of whom are responsible for several sapient races coming into fruition. Most notably of course would be the Ophonoti species, native to Niquella, the race of whom has risen to immense galactic prominence once they had unlocked the Janus Network and achieved interstellar travel. However, many other races have inhabited Syltphaan, such as the ancient Inomeni race of the Liquella who had also once ruled the system from their seat in the world of Niquella.

The system's capital is the moon of "Quantum City," a city-world in orbit around the gaseous planet of Dyquella, a capital shared with that of its ruling government, the Ophonoti Demarchy. Being both its capital, and a completely urbanized world, much of local intrastellar governance, culture, and politics revolves around Quantum City, with much of the rest of the star system feeling as if they orbit around the moon instead of the Syltphaan star.

History

Structure

Like most star systems in the galaxy, the arbitrary definition of Syltphaan's structure is largely defined by the planets which orbit its parent star. In total, six worlds orbit independent of another body around Syltphaan, with five more orbiting around them as major moons. Whilst the system itself is located at the astrographic "center" of the charted Far West Systems, though this definition only applies to the astrographic layout of the region mapped by constant Janus Gates, and does not necessarily mean it is at the center of the region in actual space.

Defined Regions

The Syltphaan System has three defined regions, each arranged by planetary orbits in descending order from closest orbit, to furthest. Each is defined in respect to their function in Syltphaan intrasystem society. Rather conveniently, this also largely correlates with the types of worlds in each region.

In order of orbital proximity they are the: Ferophaan, Aethophaan, and Iecophaan Regions.

Ferophaan Region

The Ferophaan Region consists of the worlds of Eshtury and Coatsy. As both comprise surfaces of barren and searing rock, they both have rather low local populations, and mainly serve as massive mines, with both robotic and organic miners extracting the wealth of resources upon both and expediting them to other worlds in the Syltphaan System and beyond.

Notably, it is on the world of Eshtury where the "Quantum Ring" chain of satellites is replenished, and from which it was originally built, as the Ophonoti extracted the wealth of natural resources on the dead world to construct the first generation of satellites. As many begin to be destroyed by the radiation of Horizon from Syltphaan's star and descend towards the star to be burned up, new satellites are in constant need, and more and more of the planet is stripped. The extraction has taken its toll on Eshtury, leaving deep scars on its surface that are visible even from orbit. As well, the Quantum Ring itself is counted as apart of the Ferophaan Region.

With these in mind, the Ferophaan Region is a rather important one amongst the regions of the Syltphaan System, though one may not assume as much upon first glance. Despite its harsh environment, the region’s significance to the system’s economy and technological infrastructure cannot be understated, making it a crucial yet often overlooked player in Syltphaan’s interplanetary network.

Aethophaan Region

The Aethophaan Region is the most significant region of the Syltphaan System, comprising all of its most important worlds, as well as the only worlds of the system which house native-born life. As the system's central region, both in respect to orbit, and the on-goings of its respective worlds, it is by far the most industrialized and populated region. Each of its worlds houses a population well into the trillions of sapients, with it accounting for 99.9999% of the system's permanent population. Massive megalopolis can be found on each, with massive, high-tech structures comprising them, each containing millions, or even billions of individual sapients within them.

Its first world, Dyquella, is a temperate gaseous world, which houses several large floating cities. However more notably is its moon, Quantum City, which serves as both the capital of the Syltphaan System itself, and the Ophonoti Demarchy at large. Quantum City is a city world, whose population roughly comprises 83% of the system's permanent population, most of which being of the Ophonoti species.

Its second world is the water-ocean planet of Niquella, the aquatic home world of numerous species, notably the Syltphaan's ruling species of the Ophonoti. A temperate world of largely clam saline waters, Niquella is a nexus of life, with a great population of three trillion, making nearly the remainder of the system's population. Though ironically, most Ophonoti elected to leave their home-world, in favor of worlds like Quantum City, and even to extrastellar ones.

Niquella is orbited by two moons; the first of which, Dytekta, is the most notable, as it is the only other world of the system to house natural borne life. A terra world of mostly marshlands, rainforests, and swamps, it houses a great biodiversity, As well, it is the home of a few sapient races, mainly the Xhualti, who later became a rather major race in the galaxy following their uplifting by the hands of the Ophonoti when they had discovered them. The second, Miophon, is a barren Selenae world of bright white marble stone, used by the Ophonoti as a massive testing facility for newly developed Quantum Tech.

Iecophaan Region

The final and furthest region of the Syltphaan System, the worlds that make up the Iecophaan Region are all cold frozen-over worlds devoid of native-born life. Instead, each serve as simple colonies and outposts for more cold inclined species of the galaxy. Notably, the Aoweesh species, native to Niquella, have largely made their home in this region, becoming the dominant species of the area. Its worlds are the planet of Hoshren, and the planet Plenaophti.

Out of the two planets, the latter orbit, Plenaophti, has the most relevance in both the Iecophaan Region, and the rest of the Syltphaan System. Being the systems most major Janus Relay, it is here where most outbound travel from the system to the wider galaxy at large. Ships constantly make their way to the small world, only to swiftly leave as soon as they came, in an endless stream of outer traffic. Being such an important piece of the Syltphaan System, it is the second most guarded position of the system, just behind that of Quantum City itself.

Major Bodies

The number of major bodies around the Syltphaan system is slightly less than the galactic average for White Sun stars, with six planetary bodies, most of which have a terrestrial makeup. Additionally, innumerable artificial satellites, most of which were constructed by the Ophonoti species, dot the system's localized space. These satellites are primarily in orbit around the Syltphaan star itself or its planets and moons, with Quantum City being the standout example. Several small subplanetary can be found in the Syltphaan System, though most all are simply wandering comets and asteroids.

Each planet in Syltphaan's system boasts its own unique characteristics, with some worlds shrouded in dense, toxic atmospheres, such as the world of Coatsy, while others are teeming with life or covered in vast, barren stone or ice. The five moons, acting as companions to these planets, range from icy spheres covered in frozen seas, to entire worlds of their own right, like with that of the Niquellan and Dyquellan moons.

Syltphaan

Like most star systems of Ambrosia, Syltphaan, as its host star, bears the system's namesake. Fairly large for an Annatar (White Sun star), Syltphaan is an immense sphere of Celestial energy, all gravitationally bound together toward a central Stellar-Core. Its radiant, blinding light and intense energy output serve as the lifeblood for the planets that orbit within its grasp, whilst the star's gravitational field holds the entire system in a delicate balance. This energy is not only crucial for sustaining life on certain planets but is also harnessed for various technological applications by the Ophonoti. Quantum City, the bustling capital orbiting the gaseous planet Dyquella, relies heavily on the star’s energy for its extensive Quantum Tech infrastructure, using advanced stellar arrays and energy collectors to power its megacities.

The stellar-array in orbit around the Syltphaan star is referred to as the "Quantum Ring," a large array of energy collectors in a circular pattern around its equator, which beams massive amounts of energy from the infinite well Syltphaan produces towards the planets and moons which comprise the system. Though the star’s intense Celestial radiation has worn down some of Quantum Ring's satellites. It is from the energy harvested from the Quantum Ring satellite array that many of the most impressive technological achievements of the Ophonoti Demarchy have been forged, such as the urbanization of the Quantum City moon, to the creation of the nation's central commanding-AI: "Perfection."

Outside of the Quantum Ring array, very little use of the Syltphaan star has been found for the Ophonoti Demarchy, as the star outputs higher than average Celestial radiation, no permeant orbital colonies can be established. As well, other stellar-materials ejected from the stars interior in coronal-mass ejections are a rarity, meaning no major mining operations can be launched for orbital debris. Instead, Syltphaan functions more as a a massive and infinite battery for the system, providing it with energy, warmth, and light.

Eshtury

Eshtury, the first world of the Syltphaan System, is a barren Selenae world of brown dust and rock. Largely fractured from mining operations, Eshtury is the world in which the Ophonoti Demarchy, keeps the Syltphaan System's Quantum Ring array of energy collecting satellites maintained and replenished. The planet itself is a hot and airless world, with an average global temperature of 172 degrees Celsius, (341 Fahrenheit) and a hazardous surface of magnetically sharp dust. As such, the planet is not largely colonized, holding a population of mostly synthetic androids operated by the AI "Perfection," and a sapient population of only around 60,000.

In 1,000 TI, (Time Immemorial) the planet of Eshtury would be selected by the Ophonoti, who had established small outposts on the world only two years prior, to be largely strip-mined to gather materials for an orbital array of satellites around the Syltphaan star. With their impressive technology, completion of the array would only take a little over a decade, with a complete concentric ring around the star's equator coming into fruition.. Much of the planet's surface would be mined to achieve this goal, causing the world to lose 1/3rd of its total diameter, and leaving much of it with remnant cracks and chasms from the mining operations.

In the modern era, Eshtury is still used in respect to the Quantum Ring, with its small organic and synthetic population maintaining the satellite array, and mining out the materials to construct new ones needed after others succumb to the stellar-radiation and fall into the star. As well, as the planet's interior layers are rich in metals such as iron, gold, and silver, these metals are extracted and sent out elsewhere into the system, primarily to Quantum City. Despite its harsh environment and sparse population, Eshtury has become a crucial resource hub for the system, with mining operations running continuously to meet the demand for both construction and industrial materials.

Coatsy

Coatsy, the second planet of the Syltphaan System, is an extremely hot, bright, and barren world of poisonous yellow stone and skies, with an atmosphere made of materials poisonous to most species in the galaxy, mainly comprised of carbon monoxide, phosphine, and sulfur. As such, Coatsy does not possess a very large population of sapients, only housing a little over 100,000 individuals, which, by comparison to the rest of the system, is practically zero.

Its surface is comprised mainly of limestone which is covered in a thick layers of phosphorus, most of which adopting a yellowish-orange coloration, all melted by high temperatures into a thick granular concrete type stone. A few impact craters on its surface are result of a few of the Syltphaan Systems disperse subplanetary bodies making their way to the planet's surface, after having been gravitationally attracted to the world and colliding with it. These craters, now partially filled with molten rock, occasionally release clouds of vaporized minerals due to the planet's intense heat, further contributing to its volatile landscape.

Much of the planet's population comprises extra-stellar species, those more inclined to the harsh temperature and climate of the world, though scant Ophonoti and Xhualti have made their home on Coatsy as well. As the planet has a blisteringly hot average temperature of 400 degrees Celsius (752 Fahrenheit) even those inclined usually choose to remain in orbital platforms, where the temperature is much less harsh, and later board shuttles on return trips to the surface, in order to complete their mining details.

Most of the planet's population works as miners, as the world is incredibly rich in materials like sulfur, thermite, and metals such as aluminum, gold, tin, and copper. Large mining stations and cities dot the planet, most self-automated and operated by synthetic androids and other robotics to extract these desired resources, launching them from the planet's surface elsewhere in the system, predominantly to the capital moon of Quantum City. As well, due to the extreme heat of the planet, Coatsy is often used by the Ophonoti Demarchy military as a training ground for troops to test their suits effectiveness in special operations within the nation's many hot or in-flamed worlds.

Dyquella

The planet of Dyquella is a large and relatively temperate gaseous world, mainly compromised of materials like helium and hydrogen gases, adopting an orange, tan, and white coloration. The largest world of the Syltphaan System, this gas giant is mainly known for its major moon of Quantum City, as it is the capital of the system and the larger Ophonoti Demarchy. However, as the world is a fairly calm gas world, and one of the more hospitable worlds of the Syltphaan System, it still holds a population which dwarves most colony worlds, housing around 1,500,000,000 people, though still barely a fraction of Quantum City's own, as most everyone elects to live there instead.

Similar to the planets of Eshtury and Coatsy, Dyquella is mainly used for mining operations, with robotic drones diving from its floating colonies down towards the gaseous depths to extract useful materials contained within, such as isotopes, and the gases themselves, mainly exhuming large quantities of helium and hydrogen. However, asides from just mining details, Dyquella serves as a perfect testing ground for Quantum Tech designed to operate within gas worlds across the galaxy, usually in the form of aerial vehicles, drones, and gas mining tools. Rather famously, the invention of the Quantum Tech "Sky Cities" was sparked on by Ophonoti desire to colonize the gaseous world, finalizing the technology in 30 TI, during the Ophonoti's "Great Tech-Boom" which followed their discovery of Quantum Tech itself.

In addition to its mining and testing operations, Dyquella is also home to several large floating cities that hover in the planet's upper atmosphere, tethered to massive anti-gravity generators. These cities, while not as populous as Quantum City, are significant hubs of industry and research, specializing in the development of advanced technologies used in gas-giant environments across the galaxy. The floating cities are a marvel of engineering, with sleek, futuristic designs that accommodate various research facilities, industrial plants, and residential quarters for the planet's inhabitants. Life in these airborne cities revolves around the constant hum of mining operations, and the scientists who study the unique atmospheric phenomena of Dyquella often experiment with new technologies in real-time, integrating discoveries into the ever-evolving tech used by the Ophonoti Demarchy.

Quantum City

The capital world of the Syltphaan System, Quantum City is the only major moon of the gas world Dyquella, and is itself a world covered in a single, global megalopolis, comprised of trillions upon trillions of structures, forming layers upon layers of immense cityscape. Quantum City serves as not only the capital of the Syltphaan System, but also that of the Ophonoti species entirely, extending to their Demarchy, and all client species which they govern. All the three thousand systems apart of Ophonoti control all live under the shadow of this one moon, and it is the single most populace of their government, housing a monstrous population of 19,300,000,000,000, accounting for 83% of the Syltphaan System's entire population. Alongside being the system's most populace, Quantum City is the most populace world in the whole of the Far-West Systems, and third largest populated world of the Ambrosia Alliance of United Systems as a whole.

Originally named "Elquella" by the Ophonoti, it is a rather large moon, only slightly less than that of the planet Niquella, its original surface was that of an airless desert world, similar to many across the galaxy. However, with the discovery of Quantum Tech, which had been made on the moon, its surface quickly urbanized, starting off with several large separate cities appearing upon the surface, which swiftly grew into a complete global city by the year of 19 TI. Once completed, most all Ophonoti at the time would move on the world, making it grow from billions to trillions seemingly over night.

Most of its population belongs to that of the Ophonoti species, and the moon itself houses roughly half of the species entire population as permanent residents. Alongside them, much of the system's other native species, like the Xhualti of Dytekta, and the Kessgora of Niquella have made themselves a home on Quantum City. However, Quantum City's non-Ophonoti population mainly comprises of extrastellar species, native to systems outside Syltphaan apart of the Ambrosia Alliance, with notable examples such as the Thay-Tu, and Jaslith. Many of these extrastellar residents have come to Quantum City for its technological advancements and opportunities, drawn by its status as a galactic hub of innovation and trade.

The surface itself comprises of a single cityscape, with differentiated regions defined by factors of structure density, function, and style of construction. There are regions of the world dedicated solely to housing, those to commerce, tourism, or even those solely for education. Areas of the world have also been dedicated for species outside of those who can naturally inhabit terrestrial city worlds, like the solely aquatic Kessgora, with flooded over sections, or ones within the skies, the latter ones used for industrial development more than other regions. As well, a large orbital array of spatial cities can be found encircling the world, many of which as a hub of technological research and development.

With all this combined, it should come as no shock that Quantum City is the object of greatest interest in the Syltphaan System, as it serves as perhaps the single most key location in the whole of the Far-West Systems. As a result, both the Ophonoti Demarchy, and the wider Ambrosia Alliance have an immense military presence on the world, with a permeant defense fleet of fifty thousand ships at the ready, and many more extra-stellar fleets with emergency Janus Gate arrays to the Syltphaan System should the need ever arise. The city itself is fortified with state-of-the-art defensive systems, including global shields, anti-orbital weaponry, and vast networks of ground-based military installations, making it one of the most heavily guarded locations in the known galaxy.

Niquella is the fourth world from the Syltphaan star, and the most predominant in its host of life. Holding a population of 3,000,000,000, Niquella is an absolutely bustling world, acting as a grand hub of intersystem culture and commerce. Rather famously, Niquella is host to several native-born sapient species throughout history, however, it is perhaps most notable for being the homeworld of the Ophonoti species, an amphibious Amanoid race which would later become one of the most influent species in modern galactic history. Other sapient species native to Niquella include the Kessgora, Aoweesh, Omhonoti, and Forberant-Tunnelers. As well, Niquella was once the seat of power for the Liquella, an ancient Inomeni race who has once held an empire which extended to hundreds of systems, until they were subsumed by a contemporary Inomeni race, the Seraphnim.

Its surface consists of a single global ocean of saline water, whose depth extends all the way towards the planet's platinum core, with layers of elevated rock seabed raised through tectonic activity during the planet's creation. In this ocean, a vast and diverse array of aquatic flora and fauna has developed, from small fishes, to massive reptilians beasts of prey, to large floating coral reef arrays. Although not as frequently utilized for food production as its moon Dytekta, Niquella’s sea life is still heavily hunted by its native population. These aquatic resources are often traded throughout the Syltphaan System and beyond, with certain species, such as the Zokelk, gaining widespread popularity as an intragalactic delicacy.

The ocean's vast expanse is dotted with towering, floating cities and submerged metropolises, and some even in its planetary skylines, where millions, sometimes billions of sapients live and thrive. However, rather notably, most of the planet's population consists of species not native to itself, and instead, is comprised mainly of immigrated extrastellar aquatic races. As a result, Niquella has become a rather famous world of the Far-West Systems, with species all across the galaxy making their way to the planet to witness the massive megalopolises that dot the world, and experience its unique hodgepodge aquatic culture and lifestyle.

As a result of all this, like Quantum City, Niquella is an extremely guarded and militarized world, as like the former world, if one was to hold the planet, then they would hold perhaps the single-most pivotal position in the Far-West Systems region. A permanent Alliance fleet, ten thousand strong, is stationed in orbit around the planet, with numerous extrastellar ships of all types ready at a moment's notice to Janus Gate to the system to defend the ocean world. Notably, Syx Corsage of the "Great Dyad" had defended the planet personally when she made her way to the planet's core in order to destroy the reborn Liquella; "Leviathan" from mentally dominating the galaxy.

Dytekta

The first major moon of planet Niquella, Dytekta is a small terra world whose surface comprises of warm salt ocean, and large landmasses comprised of jungle, swamp, and rainforest. It is the world that bears the most life out of all bodies of the Syltphaan System, with millions of species of flora and fauna dotting its small landscape, making it a veritable nexus of strange life exclusive to itself. Alongside being host to innumerable plants and animals, Dytekta has been the birthplace of several sapient races, with the most major being the Xhualti, an immensely physically powerful species which have made themselves quite well known in galactic society.

While rather famous in the Syltphaan System itself, in the galaxy at large, Dytekta is a rather obscure world. Little know where the Xhualti actually come from, as many elected to leave their jungled homeland, and few neglect to mention, or have even forgotten their home world thanks to having been born on worlds far beyond it. The Xhualti diaspora has spread far across the galaxy, and with each generation, their ties to Dytekta weaken, almost to the point of reaching a near mythical status in the minds of some Xhualti.
