Telmarai

Overview

The Telmarai Cluster is a star cluster located in the Cosmoria Galaxy. It contains several important worlds, the most important of which is Jivario, one of the core worlds. The Telmarai Cluster is incredibly old, at nearly 4 billion years old, but somehow, star formation has occured in this cluster many times, the last time around 200 million years ago. Every few hundred million years, the cluster flares up, producing many new stars. This is why the cluster is as big as it is.

Properties

The Telmarai Cluster is one of the largest old open clusters in the galaxy, at over 36 light years across. It is an example of what is known as a bursting cluster - an extremely rare kind of cluster found only in 3 galaxies - the Cosmoria Galaxy, the Flower Galaxy and the Ambrosia Galaxy. There are only 23 known bursting clusters - 6 in Cosmoria, 7 in the Flower Galaxy and 10 in Ambrosia. Bursting clusters are massive clusters which form in gas and dust-rich enviroments. When most of these stars start to die, the nebulae they produce fuels more star formation, and the cluster slowly grows in size. Astronomers propose this is the cause of "young-looking" globular clusters such as the Viana Cluster.

The Telmarai Cluster itself is in fact one of the biggest and oldest non-globular clusters in the Cosmoria Galaxy, being nearly 5 billion years old and over 46 light years across. It contains nearly 3000 stars, including Criuden, the parent star of Jivario.
