HAVEN LOREBOOK: THE
DRACOPEDIA – A COMPREHENSIVE
GUIDE TO DRAGONS

BY LORDSKORNE7

INTRODUCTION

Across our world of HAVEN, the legend of the "DRAGONS" throng in the hearts and minds of all mortals. Tales of mighty beasts – the great engines of destruction of nearly unrivaled might – are etched within every child’s storybook; a staple of song and myth to all.

However; most of modern mortal kind lack the critical wonder in their hearts towards the great Dragons as our collective ancestors once had. And in this indifference, their most incredible secrets have fallen from memory, and held in only the most dedicated of this world's scholar.

It was this loss of knowledge that inspired me to pen this compendium.

Despite my Raptokan heritage, I always found myself inherently drawn to the mighty Dragon. Even in my boyhood youth, I'd spend my study time sketching their visage on my notes - often leading to my scolding by my tutors:

"You're no Lithreni! they'd cry — "Leave the Dragon worship to the lizards."

Yet they could never pound the love from my feathered-skull.

Once I joined the Mage's Guild, and quickly rose to a respectable position within their mythical citadel of the Arcanium; I became the pride of my family.

Yet even after decades of magical study and increasing of my mystical prowess; my love for the Draco did not subside. I'd often spend the majority of time off from my studies to a personal pursuit of Draconic knowledge.

I'd get many a strange look at the mostly Lithreni colleagues within the mighty Draconica; world's foremost Draconic resource save from the misty glens of Lithknell's Dragonseed Isles.

"What's that bird doing in here?" I'd hear — "I don't think I've seen one come in here before."

These comments had always... profoundly confused me.

Here we are — all peoples regardless of race - having grown up with myth and legend of heroes and Dragons.

And yet: The latter principle actor never gained the same level of interest from any save their own Lithreni descendants.

I hadn't known why until I delved further into the Draco. I had initially assumed it to be a product of the ancient rivalry between that of the Edia and Lithreni; their ancestors starkly placed in contest against one another.

Yet, as I poured extensively through tome after tome, each having been written by the greatest of Dracologists of Lithknell; I found that if only the secrets of the Dragons were more readily accessible, then more people, regardless of kind, would come to the same deep fascination as I have.

Thus, dear reader: Whether one seeks to delve into the ancient origins of Dragonkind, understand the complex taxonomy of these majestic creatures, or explore the mystical and forbidden practices of Dracomancy, this compendium will serve as your go-to guide to anything pertaining to Dragonkind.

The scope of this Dracopedia is immensely vast and varied, and meant to be read in the order of the reader’s choice, catering to the relevancy of the information provided.

So take this book in hand not as a rigid manual, but as a living atlas of awe; complied over years of my life's passion.

Let it be the rekindling spark that restores to you the reverence our ancestors once knew.

And when you set it aside, may the Dragons never again be reduced to distant symbols in children’s stories, but return to your heart as the eternal guardians, terrors, and wonders they truly are.

Defining Dragons

To begin: it is difficult for a reader to open the pages of this book without having an already constructed notion of what exactly a Dragon is. As mortals, we’ve spent our whole lives hearing great tales of these mighty beasts, told in song and story, often in the form of great romance.

— Nonetheless, what is a Dragon?

In Dracology' the proper term “Draco” is used to describe each race of creatures defined as “Dragons,” with the two terms often used interchangeably.

Draco themselves vary quite vastly between member species, however, they universally share inherent traits: they are beasts with thick scales and hides, sharp elongated and serrated teeth, and are all inherently physically and magically potent. They typically have great physical stature, and each possesses an inherent Elemental or Facetational affinity.

However; beyond all else — the singular unifying trait amongst all Dragonkind is their shared heritage as the legacy of the ancient Alcadrago, the mighty beasts of wrath and ruin which nearly brought the whole of the Known World to heel during the times of Myth and Legend.

Draco are found in nearly every region of the world, with many lands harboring their own endemic species of Dragon. Thus the vestige of the Dragon is a global concept, instantly recognizable by anyone with eyes to see it, transcending geographical and cultural boundaries.

The Mythical Beginning of the Draco

According to the most ancient fragments of myth and preserved arcana, the origin of Dragonkind as they exist today is traced back to the climactic conclusion of the Edian Dragon War. This cataclysmic struggle, fought in the deep reaches of prehistory long before the rise of mortal dominions, pitted the Edian Empire against the collective might of the Alcadrago — the primordial progenitors of the Draco.

While the precise details of this conflict are lost to time, obscured by the absence of written record and the erosion of memory, scholars concur that its aftermath reshaped the fate of all Dragonkind. The Edian triumph spelled the annihilation of the Alcadrago as a coherent race: their intelligent minds were splintered, their ancient faculties broken, and their once-sapient lineage reduced to forms more bestial and instinct-driven.

From this sundering arose the Draco as we recognize them today — still mighty, still vessels of awe and terror, yet diminished from the grandeur of their Alcadrago forebears. What remains is both legacy and curse: creatures of vast power who inspire myth and fear, but whose truest inheritance is the shattered memory of a race that once stood as equals among the greatest forces of Creation.
