A long time ago, humans ruled over Earth. They built cities, roads, bridges, technology, and so on, often at the expense of their environment. The consequences of their actions came in the form of deforestation, global warming, and water poisoning. During the Great Peace, they attempted to change, dethroning the power-hungry capitalist system. However, the enablers of that system had other plans. From deep in the shadows, they bent society to their will, reclaiming the privileges they had stolen from the population. In the 23rd century CE, they set Earth ablaze with a thousand nuclear strikes. In the years that followed, human civilization died down planetside, nature treading back into its constructs. Recife was no stranger to this shift. From cracked streets and dilapidated buildings, the mangroves and coastal forests returned. Trees as high as 40 meters stood beside ancient skyscrapers, their walls coated in moss and lichen. The rarest and most colorful birds, once limited to fragmented nature reserves, were free to roam for the first time in centuries. It was only a matter of time before the monsoon rains brought down the city’s remains, spreading the concrete across the soil and erasing all signs of its existence.
