The United States (US), officially the United States of America, was a country on the North American continent of Earth. It consisted of 39 states, a federal capital district, and for over a century, was the most powerful economic, political, and military entity in human history. Post World War III, it fell into severe decline, its capitalist economy collapsing and dozens of its territories seceding permanently. In the 22nd century CE, it was partitioned into Alaska, Appalachia, Centro-Pacifica, and the Great Lakes.

Congress
The Congress was the legislative branch of the US government. It had an upper chamber, the Senate, and a lower one, the House of Representatives. Its officials, directly elected by the populations of their home states every two years, held the shared duties of counterbalancing the power of other government branches and voicing the interests of the common folk.
Historically, Congress was strictly bipartisan, split between the Democrats and Republicans. One endorsed liberalism and the other conservatism, ideologies which seemed incompatible, but were active contributors to the perpetuation of the US’s oppressive systems. The Multiparty Democracy Creation Act of 2,033 CE legalized the election of Congressmen from other parties. The most prominent American political parties in the years following the act were America Forwards, the Communist Party, Green Party, and National Reformation Party.
