Description
Vantin is a relatively large Aquaria planet with a diameter of 23,935 km and a mass over six times that of Earth's. However, due to its large size, its surface gravity is just over twice Earth's. Its axial tilt is quite large at 33 degrees, resulting in strong seasonal variations. It is located in the far outskirts of its star system, being the last planet in the orbital order, and hence has an extremely cold surface tattered with impact craters of comets and asteroids.
Its natural atmosphere is extremely thin with just over 15 Pa in pressure. It has a somewhat tenuous ring which is visible from the surface although it is not expected to last much longer due to orbital instability of its shepherd moons induced by spacecraft traffic.
History
Vantin, along with the rest of the Otus system, was first explored and mapped 99,830 by the Yanrin Colonization Company (YCC). When the company opted to lay claim to the system, Vantin was skipped over as a potential headquarters and primary colony in favor of Yanrin. While Vantin is considerably larger and more massive than Yanrin, Vantin's lower temperatures, higher surface gravity, thinner atmosphere, seasonal variations, and much higher distance from the sun was deemed to be more pain points than benefits its size would offer to a small population at the start. Hence, it was not settled by the initial colonists, though the company did decide to give the planet its current name.
It was, however, still colonized when the YCC decided to expand its presence in the system. Several ships of new colonists were sent to Vantin instead of Yanrin, and the first 10,000 people landed on 99,920. At that time, Yanrin already had populations in the millions and a branching colony on its moon Montraxas. Regardless, Vantin's larger surface area meant that colonists were given larger stakes and claims for the same cost, and they tended to spread out further in order to ensure the scarce quantities of sunlight they collected could power the mining equipment. This hindered growth of the colony as no major settlements initially emerged.
Once one did emerge, however, investors from Yanrin began to fund some light industrialization and more advanced mining facilites on the planet. Growth of the population began truly booming in the 99,980s, with the population passing through the 1 million mark on 99,985, having exceeded Montraxas as the second most populated body in Otus. This population boom resulted in the preliminary colonization of its two nearest and largest moons, named Vantinia Primus and Secundus respectively.
Economy
Like any other D-Class planet, Vantin's economy is predominantly reliant on mining activities and ore-processing for export. The majority of its trade passes through the larger spaceport at Yanrin, though some of its exports are sent directly to other systems from Vantin's own facilities. Industrialization levels of the planet is considerably lesser than Yanrin or Montraxas, though it has been expanding considerably in recent years.
Its annual GDP was estimated at 756 billion C-Units in 99,999, or approximately 180,000 C-Units per capita.
Politics
Vantin's government is managed semi-separately from the main colony at Yanrin. While it uses the same law code and regulations as Yanrin, it runs its own taxations, budgeting, and permit issuances. It has its own legislative council (with YCC representation) and executive leader (elected president). As the majority of Vantin's population originated from immigrants who immigrated separately with the Yanrinians, the latter generally does not put much interest into Vantinian politics. [[Category:]]
