Volition (ᛋᛄᚪᛚᚠᛒᚩᚦᚪᛗᚪᚦᚱ in Nova Runic) is a Void Island located in the Texcanotli's Triad Void Archipelago. It orbits the star Ocelnova, where it is the third world out from the star, putting it in the outermost orbit in the system.
Due to it's proximity to the Cairn of Light, Ocelnova was one of the first exo-systems that the Kin reached out to during their early explorations beyond their own Void Archipelago, and into the wider Voidsea. This meant that Volition became one of the first worlds that the Kin saw, not through transmitted images, but with their own eyes when they entered the system themselves. As such, like the rest of Texcanotli's Triad, Volition became one of the core worlds to the Kin, and has a long history.
It was originally part of the Greater Solar Union, before the Union collapsed locally. It then spent an extended period of time on it's own, dealing with localized conflicts to the Texcanotli's Triad system. When the Kin from the Cairn of Light began to expand into the Voidsea once more, it, and several other systems, would join to become the Stjarna Union. Later still, they would meet with the Solar Union - the surviving remnants of the Greater Solar Union. Along with the Fasian Dominion, the three would unify, leading to the current day Cosmic Union.
As the Ages passed, a multitude of purposes began to be found for Volition - Originally a scientific world, and then an inhabited world for Kinde with high-gravity requirements, by the Valhallan Age, Volition has been transformed into an Amplifier World, complete with massive runic constructs built into the very surface of the world to channel Taekni, and to transmit the Broadwave further across the region. This has increased it's significance quite radically, as it is now considered to be a major world within the inner regions of Cosmic Union Voidsea.
Description
An incredibly dense world, Volition possesses a gravity of 1.85G. This high gravity and density made it a world full of high-density minerals, laced with ultra-heavy elements and crystalline lattices. In the past, this made it useful both as a scientific endeavours, for finding ways for the Kin to deal with higher-gravity solid-worlds, and as a mining operation.
By the Valhallan Age, much of it's surface has been built over in dense metals and other such structures. One side of the planet, known as the Sigil Region, composes hundreds of structures formed into the shape of a Taekni Rune, in order to transmit the Broadwave. It can also be used to power up shields in the event of attack. Other parts of the world have similar constructs built on it, which can manifest various effects if needed. The manpower required to activate any such effect is massive, and forms the basis of Volition's defensive strategy. It was constructed during the Lost Age and the Taekni Age. Today, Volition plays a vital role in projecting the Broadwave, as well as stabilizing nearby Voidsea communications and Taekni harmonics within the core of the former Stjarna Union.
Colonization
Colonization of Volition has always been done in a variety of ways - Due to it's high gravity, the Kin did not settle it in a permanent fashion for quite some time - Scientific research and mining operations were the primary colonial forces there, with much of the permanent population living on Void-Stations in orbit. Much industrial work on the Void Island was done via non-sentient mechanical robots and automated machinery, due to them being capable of withstanding the higher gravity for longer periods of time without long-term side effects.
This changed when the Greater Solar Union expanded and began to include Kinde which had evolved to require higher gravity environments. Worlds like Volition were repurposed and settled by these various Kinde, who could make better use of them, and create something on the world that would be of greater benefit to the Union.
