The Xauri [Zow-Ree] are a humanoid Kinde. Hailing from the world of Venkejit in the Pankejit system of the Voidsea, the Xauri are a comparatively primitive Kinde when it comes to technology - But have demonstrated a remarkable aptitude for the use of Taekni.
Many ancient Xauri records all speak of Taekni, leading many anthropologists of other Kinde to suspect that they came into sapience after Taekni became a widespread phenomena. However, due to internal conflicts and suppression of Taekni from the masses, Taekni was not used to establish Xauri civilization. It was done manually, with hard labour, agricultural and urban developments seen in many Kinde before the Technopocalypse.
Surviving on a world made up of fungus forests in a state of near-permafrost, the Xauri became an incredibly hardy and resourceful people, learning to live in tandem with nature to establish a self-renewing society that allowed them to survive. In the grand scheme of things, they are a relatively recent arrival to the Voidsea, but have established a complex, interconnected civilization remarkably quickly.
Their civilization achieved a global unity before it even left it's south-pole continent, leading to an era of peaceful exploration. This unified civilization was known as the Xauri'Fara'Venkejit - roughly translating to "Venkejit, Domain of the Xauri." It was during this era that Taekni began to have it's many restrictions lifted, and this in turn saw the rapid expansion of the Xauri Kinde across their homeworld.
At some point, they discovered the Akajet Node, and were able to spread into the Realmlands, where they have been able to spread themselves across the stars.
Description
The Xauri are, on a basic level, very similar to the Elvendritch, sharing their pointed ears, and black sclera. At some point in their history, the Xauri evolved horns, made out of bone, which would grow out of their skulls. Xauri bones can be a variety of colours - From dark blue, to black, to dull red. Roughly two-thirds of Xauri have horns - One third do not. To not have horns is considered intimidating within Xauri culture.
The majority of Xauri have blue skin, though there are a few exceptions which have stark-white skin. These Xauri were historically suffering from a recessive genetic disorder, but as advances in Xauri medical care improved, any negative effects from the disorder are no longer a concern. In the modern age, a white-skinned Xauri is more a curiosity than anything else.
Due to arriving on Venkejit, and evolving there rather than originating from the world in the strictest sense of the term, Xauri anatomy is not perfectly suited to life on their homeworld - While they have good tolerance to the cold, they are far from perfectly insulated from it, and generally prefer slightly more temperate climates. That being said, they are perfectly comfortable in low temperatures for the most part, and their clothing can be loose, or even revealing at times.
Like the Elvendritch, they are remarkably similar in appearance to the Elaven. Like the Elvendritch, genetic research has found that these similarities are entirely coincidental.
Culture
It is common for Xauri, especially those that reside on Venkejit, to have long hair. Due to the cold of their homeworld, long hair is often used as an insulator against low temperatures. Despite this, shorter hair has become more and more common on Xauri, particularly those that do not reside primarily on Venkejit. Among the majority of Xauri however, short hair is still considered an oddity, and impractical.
Kemma'Ika is a type of Mushroom Cider made on Venkejit. It is a popular drink that has spread throughout the Voidsea.
Many Xauri are in excellent shape, due to mandatory participation in sports of all sorts. Because of this, many Xauri have a competitive mindset.
