The Yazera Pact, formally the Treaty of Mutual Assistance and Support, is the accord between a variety of Ervo Sector powers, initially formed to support the rebellions within the space of the Tyran Empire during the Tyran War. After Earen and the Avor System requested aid of the Verdan Federation against the Falacian Dominion, the latter withdrew from the pact, and the purpose of the military alliance pivoted towards defense against the increasingly erratic Dominion.

After their independence from the Tyran Empire, the three largest breakaway states signed the Yazera Pact, and the nascent Tyran Free State also joined shortly after its creation. In 79 AC, the Avor System and Earen both requested military assistance from the pact and received it, resulting in the Falacian Dominion's departure from the alliance, arguing that the other members had started to work against it and undermine its sovereignty.

History

Shortly before the creation of the Verdan Federation, a set of territories in the control of the Tyran Empire erupted in rebellion, making great strides towards independence. But God-Emperor Shahso would attempt to subdue the rebellions in the most brutal way possible, by directly bombarding the centers of the movement. When his fleet arrived at Vistari and laid siege to the planet, intending to wipe out all life upon it, the rebel leaders sent long-range distress calls across the Ervo Sector]].

The Tyran Empire's spy network worked to undermine the creation of the Verdan Federation from its constituent nations and undermine their relationships with their neighbors in an effort to prevent exactly what the Yazera Pact would become. But these efforts failed, and the spy leader Chahsan was captured at Quantis. She defected to the Varbudian Union, offering to give them and their allies information on the Empire's future plans in the region. This information was quickly disseminated to all member states of the newborn Federation as it coalesced in the midst of this crisis, as well as the Talarian Union and Falacian Dominion. These facts convinced the three nations that a military alliance would be in their best interest, and diplomats at Yazera signed the pact in 0 AC.

The first military engagement between the Yazera Pact and the Tyran Empire occurred at the Battle of Vistari in 0 AC, resulting in a great success for the alliance and turning the tide of the war in favor of the rebels. Also notable was the Battle of Bakino, which finally drove the Tyran Empire out of the Bakino system in what would become Voyorras. After the death of Shahso, a decent fraction of the Tyran war fleet defected to the side of the rebels and the alliance, aiding them in overcoming the remaining ships.

Following the war, the nations of the Yazera Pact assisted the newly formed breakaway states with the rebuilding effort, as well as the Tyran Free State formed in 43 after the destruction of the empire in the Athos Supernova. The Falacian Dominion was always reticent in giving this aid, however, as they still had secret designs on territory then-controlled by the Tyran Free State.

The provinces of Avor and Lekna, tired of Falacian oppression, declared their independence from the Dominion and petitioned the Verdan Federation for help. Showing their commitment to morality over political expediency, the Federation recognized and supported the independence of the Republic of Avor and United Earen. This led to the Falacian Dominion withdrawing from the Yazera Pact under the pretext that the other nations were working to undermine its sovereignty and internal security by supporting the "rabid terrorist bands of the outer reaches".

Avor and United Earen would later join the Verdan Federation properly due to promises of faster military response time and aid, which prompted the floundering Dominion to attempt an invasion of Federation territory. They were promptly beaten back shortly after crossing the border in interstellar space by an impressive coalition fleet near the rogue planet Toralea. Repeated attempts to reenter Federation space led to the coalition fleet completely ignoring the Falacians, jumping directly to Darossa before forcing the Falacian government to the treaty table. The remaining Yazera Pact members were all party to the Treaty of Talit, which bound the Falacian Dominion to never enter the space of a Yazera Pact member without escort and lowered the threshold required to go to war in the event of a violation. This began the Falacian Cold War, with both sides constantly staring each other down and threatening action for the next fifty years.

This state of affairs came to an end when the Ervo Sector powers came up against the Alliance of Five after the discovery of the Szalana Wormhole. With the beginning of the War of the Broken Bow, the Falacian Dominion's many factions fought alongside the Yazera pact against the Void. The near-complete collapse into chaos shortly before the war prevented them from ever being a credible threat to the Pact anyway, as nothing short of the existential threat of the Void was able to pull them together even briefly.

Today, the Yazera Pact is mostly at peace, but no serious threat has presented itself since the Falacian Dominion's collapse into chaos, so that is unsurprising. The recently seceded Imperial Falacian State looks to be a potential threat if their designs on the reunification of the Falacian species come to fruition, so members of the Pact are keeping a close eye on them and occasionally making diplomatic overtures to the imperial court at Hikrai.
